As Broadway stars, Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster must remember that their once-not-so-secret love affair could lead on to great theater behind the scenes – perhaps punctuated by some bittersweet Stephen Sondheim-style ballads and stirring dance numbers Michael Bennett.

As Foster herself said, she and Jackman developed an in depth bond and reportedly much more so once they were married to other people and starred in a Broadway revival of “The Music Man” from late 2021 to early 2023. Foster, 49, explained in a 2022 interview that she and Jackman, 56, enjoyed private pre-performance meetings in her dressing room and sat on the carpet “catching up on our day.”

“We call it carpet chat,” Foster said.

But it has now been officially confirmed that those locker room conversations were about rather more than simply skilled ties. As a people magazine On Tuesday, the world was told that the previous “Music Man” co-stars were photographed the night before walking the streets of Santa Monica holding hands, laughing and staring into one another's eyes.

The Cut said the photos were of the brand new couple “High-gloss paparazzi debut” After keeping their romance an “open secret” in Broadway circles for several years – and maybe an actual secret to Jackman's longtime wife Deborah-lee Furness. In the photos, the couple seem like either unaware that they’re being photographed, or that they know and don't care.

In the autumn, New York tabloids and other media outlets began reporting that Jackman and Foster had begun a relationship through the run of The Music Man. In the classic musical revival, Jackman played con artist Harold Hill, who falls in love with Foster's librarian Marian Paroo.

The affair reports began when Tony Award-winning Foster filed for divorce from screenwriter Ted Griffin in October after 10 years of marriage – “amid rumors” that she was now dating Jackman.

The 12 months before, Jackman and Furness announced they were separating after 27 years of marriage, however the two spoke of their split as a mutual decision to “pursue our individual growth.”

However, following the flood of reports about Jackman's backstage romance with Foster, sources near Furness confirmed to entertainment media that the affair was “the reason for Hugh and Deb's divorce,” Us Weekly reported in November.

“A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it a secret because they're both such nice and great people,” the source continued to Us Weekly. “Everyone respected their privacy. But there was an affair and overlap.”

Furness also appeared to verify to herself that her husband's secret romance with Foster led to their divorce, Us Weekly reported. At one point, gossip blogger Tasha Lustig spilled “big tea” about Furness being “blindsided” by her husband's romance together with his co-star.

In an Instagram video, Lustig said the “Wolverine” star “blindsided” Furness, who had given him “her entire life and career,” by “eloping with the mistress.” On her personal account, Furness was among the many greater than 26,000 who viewed and “liked” Lustig's post, Us Weekly reported.

Additionally, Furness' close friend, British media personality Amanda de Cadenet, also commented on Lustig's claim, Us Weekly reported. “You’re right.”

Lustig also reported that Jackman and Foster planned to publicly “soft launch” their relationship.

It looks like this “soft launch” took place in the brand new 12 months. Ahead of Monday night's sighting, People reported that Jackman was spotted within the audience at a recent performance of Foster's “Once Upon a Mattress” on the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles. He had the privilege of sitting next to comedy legend Carol Burnett, who originated Foster's role within the 1959 production of the show.

The Los Angeles production of Once Upon a Mattress definitely explains why New Yorkers Jackman and Foster were in Santa Monica on Monday night. People magazine reported that the 2 were photographed arriving at a restaurant in Santa Monica. Jackman was dressed casually, wearing a dark jacket over a gray shirt and white jeans, while Foster wore a brown trench coat over an olive dress.

People magazine won't reveal which restaurant they ate at. But in the case of a selected Italian restaurant in Santa Monica that's often known as a celeb hotspot, it's easy to assume that this “glossy paparazzi debut” might need been well thought out by Jackman, Foster and their publicists.

Feeling exhausted and lethargic is common: a 2022 national survey found that 13.5% of U.S. adults reported this felt “very tired” or “exhausted.”“most days or every single day for a period of three months.

Women aged 18 to 44 had the very best fatigue rates – just over 20%.

Fatigue is related to something deeper than simply overwork or an indication of the times. I’m a registered dietitian and dietary neuroscientist. My research and the work of others on this field show that your weight loss program and lifestyle decisions could also be contributing to your problems. These two aspects are closely related and could possibly be the important thing to understanding what’s holding you back.

In particular, the inadequate intake of three essential nutrients – Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 And Omega-3 fatty acids – is related to low energy levels.

Vitamin D

More than 40% of American adults have a vitamin D deficiency. Low values are related to this Fatigue, bone pain, muscle weakness, mood disorders and cognitive decline.

Foods high in vitamin D These include fatty fish similar to salmon, sardines, freshwater rainbow trout, fortified dairy products and egg yolks. Among the Sources for vegetarians and vegans are fortified plant-based milks and cereals in addition to some forms of mushrooms.

That of the US government recommended day by day amount of vitamin D is 400 international units, or IU, for infants as much as 12 months, 600 IU for people ages 1 to 70, and 800 IU for people over 70. Just over 5 ounces (150 grams) of sockeye salmon fillet incorporates about 800 IU of vitamin D. If you If you’ve a vitamin deficiency, your doctor may prescribe the next dose than the advisable day by day dose to bring your blood levels as much as normal.

Shrimp, organ meats, milk, eggs and fortified dietary yeast are foods high in vitamin B12.

Vitamin B12

About 20% of Americans have done this insufficient vitamin B12 levelswhich may affect energy production and result in anemia and due to this fact fatigue.

Low B12 levels are significantly higher in older people, pregnant and breastfeeding womenPeople with gastrointestinal diseases like inflammatory bowel diseasethose that take certain medications like proton pump inhibitors and other people with Alcohol use disorder.

Since vitamin B12 is primarily present in meat, fish, dairy products and eggs, vegetarians and vegans should consider taking vitamin B12 Vitamin B12 complement. The advisable day by day amount for people ages 4 and older is 2.4 micrograms, which is about what’s present in 3 ounces of tuna or Atlantic salmon. Pregnant and breastfeeding women require something more.

Taking B12 supplements could be just as effective as getting the vitamin from food – and taking the complement with food can increase absorption.

However, here's a note about dietary supplements usually: While they could be useful, they mustn’t replace whole foods.

It's not only dietary supplements Compared to prescription and over-the-counter drugs, they’re less strictly regulated by the Food and Drug Administrationmaking their effectiveness uncertain, but real food also provides a posh spectrum of nutrients that work synergistically. Many supplements available on the market contain multiple servings of vegetables, but nothing beats the actual food.

In addition to salmon and sardines, the various vegan sources of omega-3 fatty acids also include pecans, almonds and pumpkin seeds.
fcafotodigital/E+ via Getty Images

Omega-3 fatty acids

About 87% of adults ages 40 to 59 and about 80% of those over 60 not consuming enough omega-3 fatty acids Meet dietary recommendations. Many pregnant women don't do that either.

Omega-3 fatty acids are crucial for brain health and a deficiency can result in a rise in fatty acids Anxiety and depression levels And impaired cognitive function. Taken together, these deficiencies can result in fatigue.

The best sources of omega-3 fatty acids are fat fishbut in case you follow a strict vegan weight loss program, flaxseeds, chia seeds and walnuts could be great alternatives. However, it needs to be noted that the omega-3 fatty acids in fish are higher absorbed by the body as plant sources – and this determines how efficiently the body can use the omega-3.

Additionally, whole flaxseeds have a tough outer shell that makes it difficult to digest and absorb their nutrients. But ground flaxseed has been broken down, producing omega-3 fatty acids and other nutrients more available for absorption.

The role of alcohol

Although alcohol could make you are feeling relaxed within the moment, it actually is contributes to fatigue after the buzzing has subsided. alcohol is a poison; It forces your body to prioritize its metabolism over that of nutrients, meaning the body uses fewer carbohydrates and fat for energy.

Alcohol too reduces the absorption of B vitaminswhich consequently affects energy production. Conclusion: Anyone who drinks alcohol ultimately feels drained.

The duration may vary depending on where you reside, how much clothing you wear, and what time of 12 months you might be exposed. On a sunny day in summer you’ll reach your day by day vitamin D requirement much faster than on a cloudy day in winter.

And it could sound counterintuitive, however the more you exercise, the more energy you’ll produce; Training doesn't exhaust you. Instead, it boosts energy and mood by improving blood circulation and helping to release endorphins, that are hormones the body produces to alleviate pain or stress.

Without exercise, the human body becomes less efficient at producing energy, leading to lethargy. Combined with fluctuating blood sugar levels – often attributable to a weight loss program high in refined sugar and low in nutrients – these dips and spikes in energy can leave you feeling irritable and drained.

Aim for a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week through activities similar to brisk walking, cycling, swimming and strength training.

Bad sleep makes things worse. Too little rest disrupts the body's natural recovery processes and results in reduced energy and concentration.

So you need to attempt to get it seven to nine hours of excellent sleep every night. For some people this isn't easy; Creating a relaxing bedtime routine helps, and limiting screen time is essential.

Avoid phones, computers, and other screens for a minimum of 30 to 60 minutes before bed. The blue light emitted by screens may cause interference your body's melatonin productiona hormone that helps regulate sleep. Conversely, activities like reading, meditating, or gentle stretching signal your body that it's time to sleep.

In short: There are things you possibly can do to combat your fatigue. Smart decisions help optimize mood, energy levels and overall health, reducing bouts of sluggishness throughout the day.

Make no mistake: your weight loss program and lifestyle could make all of the difference between being alert or drained.

DEAR ABBY: My wife works 2pm to 10pm. The other day she left me a voicemail: “I'm super tired and I'm not coming home tonight. I'm going to stay at a motel.”

She swears she didn't go together with anyone – she just went there and slept. I'm unsure if I should imagine her. I'm also unsure what to do next. Help me please.

DEAR HUSBAND: You would think your wife can be used to her work hours. What she did is very unusual and dear. Can she produce the motel receipt? If so, let it slide – this time.

If this happens again, you might want to think about hiring a personal investigator to make it easier to determine the reason behind her sudden change in behavior.

DEAR ABBY: I'm still obsessive about my old flame, though we broke up 21 years ago.

We grew up in a poor factory town where I used to be a frustrated, mediocre athlete. She was a cheerleader. We each had fundamentalist religious views, which, combined with poor access to contraception, led us to “save ourselves for marriage” during our five-plus years of standard dating. Unlike most of our peers, we were capable of go to school.

Around the time I graduated from highschool, when a lot of my friends were getting married, she met a minor league baseball player, soon after traveled with him to a different state, and gave up her virginity.

Soon after, she had a summer affair with a fantastic college football player after which with a much older divorced lawyer.

I pretended to look good while continuing my demanding graduate program, but I used to be physically sick and so extremely depressed and disillusioned that I even had suicidal thoughts.

By likelihood, I met her again 15 years later. We were each married and he or she was very involved in Christian ministry. I told her without prejudice that her affairs had been very painful.

We had a pleasant lunch and parted on good terms, but she showed no remorse and dismissed all of it as “just sex.”

Abby, in spite of everything this time, I'm still confused. I don't know what I need. Maybe I need revenge.

Am I crazy for holding out this long, or do others carry their pain with them for the remaining of their lives?

LOVE THAT DOESN’T SHAKE YOU: Yes, some people carry their pain with them for the remaining of their lives in the event that they don't take care of it.

My friend, you don't need revenge – it’s good to stop reliving the past. It's a waste of energy. If you may't do that on your individual, counseling will help.

They didn't call it voter suppression back then, but civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer knew exactly how white authorities
in Mississippi had concerns about black voter turnout within the Sixties.

At a rally with Malcolm X in Harlem, New York, on December 20, 1964, Hamer described the brutal beatings She and other blacks fought for civil and voting rights in Mississippi.

One 12 months ago, in June 1963Hamer and a few of her friends attended a voter education workshop in Charleston, South Carolina. On the best way back to Mississippi, the bus driver called the police to remove Hamer and her colleagues from the whites-only section of the bus where they’d been sitting.

When they stopped in Winona, Mississippi, local police were waiting for them and promptly arrested them for disorderly conduct.

While in prison, Hamer told the Harlem rally, “I started hearing leaking noises and hearing screams. I couldn't see the people, but I could hear them. …They would call her horrible names. And I would hear when she would hit the ground again.”

After some time, Hamer said, she saw a friend walking past her cell.

“Her clothing was torn from shoulder to waist,” Hamer said. “Her hair stood on end. Her mouth was swollen and bleeding. And one of her eyes looked like blood. … And then three men came into my cell.”

Hamer was also beaten and suffered injuries that resulted in lifelong injuries to his eyes, kidneys and legs. The experience also left her no selection but to fight back. And she fought until her death on the age of 59 on March 14, 1977.

Challenging the establishment

The Harlem rally was organized to support the political party that Hamer co-founded as a member in 1964 Freedom summerduring which lots of of school students traveled to Mississippi and other southern states to assist register blacks to vote.

The Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party was a racially integrated alternative to the state's segregationist Democratic Party. Hamer was elected vice chairman of the party and in addition ran for a seat within the U.S. House of Representatives. In addition to Hamer's congressional campaign, one in every of her party's fundamental goals was to dam the seats of the state's five pro-segregationist U.S. congressmen.

In 1964, lower than 7% of the state's black population in Mississippi were eligible to vote, despite the fact that nearly 40% of the state's population was black.

LBJ's Southern Problem

Hamer's challenge to the split delegation couldn't have come at a worse time for President Lyndon Johnson.

At the time, Johnson was involved in a re-election campaign against right-wing conservative Barry Goldwater was afraid of losing Southern Democratic politicians and voters within the upcoming presidential election.

The fight in Mississippi erupted nationally when television networks broadcast Hamer's August 22, 1964, testimony before Congress Democratic Convention Credentials Committee, which determined who qualified to be a state delegate. In her try and get the committee to acknowledge her political party, Hamer spoke concerning the second-class, often violent treatment of black people.

“It’s all because we want to register to become first-class citizens.” she said.

To prevent further witness statements Johnson immediately held an impromptu press conference that may divert network television attention away from Hamer.

Despite Johnson's tactics Hamer's story Still widespread across the country, due partially to a series of rallies in northern cities, including Harlem.

“The truth is the only thing that can set us free,” Hamer said through the speech in Harlem. “When I testified before the credentials committee, I was interrupted because they hate to see what they knew all along, and that's the truth.”

Ill and drained

Born on October 6, 1917, in Montgomery County, Mississippi, Hamer was the twentieth and last child of sharecroppers Lou Ella and James Townsend. She began picking cotton on the age of six and was soon forced to go away school to assist her family survive.

“We worked 10 to 11 hours a day for three lousy dollars,” Hamer once said.

In 1961, during an operation to remove a uterine tumor, Hamer underwent a hysterectomy by a white doctor without her consent. Forced sterilization was one in every of the explanations Hamer joined the civil rights movement.

In the summer of 1962, Hamer attended their first meeting Non-Violent Student Coordinating Committee, a civil rights group of predominantly black college students that organized nonviolent protests against segregation and provided voter registration training. On August 31, 1962, Hamer and 17 others decided to place their education to good use by attempting to register to vote on the courthouse in Indianola, Mississippi.

Of the 18 people, 16 weren’t allowed to take the test required for voter registration. Only Hamer and one other person were allowed to take it – and each failed. These literacy tests consisted of Reading and interpreting Parts of the state structure, similar to habeas corpus, a constitutional right to guard an individual from illegal imprisonment.

Devastated, the group faced further harassment when local police stopped their bus and fined them $100 for an exaggerated accusation Bus was too yellow.

The insults and constant fear of violence were examples of on a regular basis black life in Mississippi, a story Hamer called tragic, unconstitutional and, unfortunately, all too familiar.

“And you can always hear this long sob story.” she said. “We have been giving them time for 300 years. And I’ve been tired for so long, now I’m tired of being sick and tired and we want a change.”
