Matthew Slater's prolonged term in Foxborough has ended.

After the veteran leader won three Super Bowls in 2024 and won five all-pro-nods as ACE from the Patriots special teams from 2008 to 23, he served as coaching in 2024 and served because the “special assistant” of the top coach in the primary yr in the primary yr. Jerod.

But with Mayo after a season as head coach and fired and Mike Vrabel Slater overtook the coaching team in New England and was not retained in a revised personnel group for the 2025 season.

It is an unlucky end for Slater and a number of other other ex-patriots resembling Dont'a Hightower, who was not retained by Vrabel as an Inside Linebackers coach of the team after a season.

But Slater spoke to Dan Roche within the Boston Winter Ball with Dan Roche in Boston Winter Ball that his exit from the Patriots organization would release more time for them along with his family.

“I am a father and husband, and that's what is just right for me.” Slater said to Roche. “This is what I'm most excited about. I put it on hold for many years and I will do that in the near future. “

Even if Slater now emphasizes a brand new chapter in his life after 17 seasons in New England, the 39-year-old left a formidable legacy in Foxborough.

Slater is taken into account the best “Gunners” in special teams in NFL history and was capable of join his father Jackie in view of his registration information within the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

But beyond his ligete awards, Slater was a fundamental piece within the second stage of the 20-year dynasty in New England. From 2011 to 23 he served as a team captain every season.

Even with the fights that the patriots plagued within the 2024 season, Slater received quite a lot of praise from Patriots players for his leadership for Mayo's coaching staff.

“I think Matthew Slater was great,” Maye told Sirius XMS Amber Theoharis and Kirk Morrison at first of this month. as transcribed by Masslive's Mark Daniels. “He was an All-Pro for everybody [those] Years, an important, great guy within the changing room. Great guy. He helped as a trainer and is an important mentor, a follower – he was great in all points of life. “

When Slater begins a new journey, he emphasized Roche again that he was proud of the legacy he leaves in Neuengland.

“I had an enormous experience as a patriot. They were just good to me, ”said Slater. “You allowed me to live out my childhood dream and I am very grateful for it. I am grateful for the whole family, the family did for me, and I see that this will not change soon.

“I will always be a Patriots fan and always support the team. At the moment it is important that I support my family and that's what I will do. ”

Brittney Griner joined the secondary season as a second longest watched player with a team within the WNBA and spent her entire profession with the Phoenix Mercury since his draft in 2013.

For the primary time, Griner will attract one other WNBA jersey. The 34-year-old center signs the Atlanta Dream for the 2025 season, she announced on Instagram on Tuesday. According to a league source, the deal is for one yr.

Griner brings an experienced presence right into a promising young core in Atlanta, with the two-time all-stars Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray on the wings and the two-time all-king Point Guard Jordin Canada on the background. After the dream in the primary round of the playoffs has been swept within the last two seasons within the last two seasons, he hopes to take a step forward. They introduced FGCU head coach Karl Smesko to modernize the worst offensive within the WNBA in 2024, and now have a two-time Torchampion in Griner as a presence.

Griner indicated a possible exit from Phoenix when she said she would stop meeting with other teams for the primary time within the free agency, and her departure seemed almost certain when the Mercury Alyssa Thomas acquired in a single trade. Although Thomas and Griner were Olympic teammates, their full-time front court partnership was weak in view of the challenges.

On the opposite hand, Smesko at NCAA level by prioritization of layups and 3-clayers, and Griner has increasingly seen more of their firing distribution from these zones. She tried 62.1 percent of her field goals between the limited area and the 3-point line in 2024, a shooting eating regimen that probably has to develop in Atlanta.

Griner's selection of dream is a surprise since it leaves a company with a primary -class exercise facility for somebody who has no own place. Atlanta also plays in an arena where 3,500 people happen. The expectation of the free agency was that the players would prioritize amenities of their decision -making, but Griner focused on the squad as a substitute.

The dream continues to be within the contract for the fourth yr, Naz Hillmon within the fourth yr, with the experienced centers Tina Charles and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus high for brand new deals. Parker-Tyus didn't appear to enjoy a bank role in Atlanta last season, and that's all that may be available with Griner from Griner. Griner and Charles ought to be 2022 teammates in Phoenix as early as Griner was wrongly arrested in Russia. Charles left the mercury before Griner was released, but possibly the 2 could now reunite.

Even after the signing of Griner, the dream has a substantial cap room to follow one other free agent at the utmost level. You could also exchange your 2026 or 2027 First-Rounder along with a young player for trade. With this core Sabally, Satou would make sense if she is able to go to Atlanta.

Griner filmed her announcement, surrounded by Gray, Howard and Canada, all of whom also played in an incomparable season on this post. It is the primary example, but probably not the very last thing that Miami is a useful WNBA hub without spending a dime agencies.

How incomparable the WNBA hub of all chatter, gossip and deal making became

When she passed the dream, Griner said that she was excited for a “rebrand” and showed “something else” within the twelfth yr of her profession. Perhaps your move would require an extra change in Phoenix for the longest distributed WNBA player, as all eyes turn to Diana Taurasi and her potential retirement. At the moment the mercury of at the least one franchise icon has separated, however the low season is young.

LOS ANGELES – After a couple of wild seasons, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo finally seems relaxed.

The 10-year veteran has returned to a backup role as each Garoppolo and the Los Angeles Rams realized it was the proper time to unite. Garoppolo was in search of a solid foundation while the Rams wanted a reliable backup for starter Matthew Stafford.

It's been a fantastic pairing thus far, especially after Garoppolo has struggled with a lot uncertainty over the past few years.

“It was chaotic at times, but it was all learning experiences,” Garoppolo said. “That's one thing I took away from it. The NFL is crazy, man. Everybody has a story. Everybody's trying to make it somehow. But at the end of the day, it's your story and you have to make the best of it. Good, bad or indifferent, whatever happened in the past, it happened. … Now I'm here and I'm just trying to make every day the best day.”

Garoppolo's profession overall has been remarkably eventful. The New England Patriots drafted him within the second round in 2014, with Bill Belichick citing Tom Brady's age as a primary reason for considering a possible succession plan. But when Brady's performance didn't decline with age, the Patriots traded Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers in 2017.

Garoppolo tore his ACL in 2018, led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2019, and missed a lot of the 2020 season resulting from a severe ankle sprain. Garoppolo kept his starting spot in 2021 after the Niners invested heavily in Trey Lance, however the team had prepared to make use of Lance in 2022, setting off an unpredictable chain response that appeared to lay the groundwork for Garoppolo's transfer or release. Instead, he reworked his contract and filled in for Lance after the latter suffered a gruesome ankle injury in Week 2, but ultimately went down again along with his own Lisfranc injury, paving the best way for Brock Purdy's emergence.

There was never a dull moment: Garoppolo endured a grueling recovery from offseason foot surgery before joining the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. However, he was benched midseason, the identical day head coach Josh McDaniels was fired.

So it's comprehensible why a backup job with the Rams and the chance to start out over were attractive to Garoppolo.

“It's really nice to have a healthy offseason,” Garoppolo said. “I haven't had one like this in a long time. The foot surgery last year was tough. For anyone who's been through that, it wasn't a great recovery, but I feel like I'm back to being myself. In this role, I get to experiment with some things when I'm with the 2s. I get to be myself. I haven't had that in a long time, so it's nice to get back to that.

Garoppolo cited Stafford and Rams coach Sean McVay as the main reasons he wanted to play in Los Angeles. McVay in particular impressed Garoppolo when the two spoke on the phone. Garoppolo, who has also drawn interest from other teams, was also eager to learn more about Stafford's approach.

Garoppolo, who will begin the season serving a two-game suspension for violating the league's doping policy, also realized in the offseason that a guaranteed starting spot is out of the question. Of course, he could have gone somewhere to compete with a young quarterback, but that would have led to a similar dynamic to what he experienced in San Francisco, where the organization would inevitably be reliant on the long-term investment. Similarly, with teams starting over at the quarterback position, job security for head coaches is usually not as stable as he just experienced in Vegas.

McVay is hardly a sure thing in the league and his offensive scheme speaks for itself. The mood in the Rams building is also as good as it can be.

There were a number of reasons for Garoppolo to take a step back in Southern California.

“This place also lets you be yourself, which is different than other places I've been. You're put under pressure with a way of urgency, but in a very good way. Of course, everyone desires to win. Everyone desires to perform well. Here, they do it the suitable way. They push you in a positive way. There's just numerous good things happening, man. I'm having fun with every second of it. Even the meetings are a very good time. Everything's going well immediately.”
