There are changes within the Celtics ownership group: Boston Basketball Partners has announced plans to sell the team.

Accordingly Dan Shaugnessy of the Boston GlobeThe sale is being pushed by H. Irving Grousbeck, the daddy of Celtics governor Wyc Grousbeck.

The move is reportedly a part of Grousbeck's try and get his affairs so as.

NBA Commissioner Adam Sliver expressed his response to the move this week through the Summer League in Las Vegas.

“I’m honestly sad about it,” Silver said loudly Souichi Terada of MassLive. “Simply because they not only won two championships (under the current owners), but also managed the team in a first-class manner and he was a first-class owner in this league,”

“I respect his family's decision to sell the team,” Silver added. “I think it's bittersweet for everyone. Hopefully the successor owner or owners will be as fantastic stewards of the team as they have been. They have been an exemplary franchise with exemplary owners.”

Silver praised Wyc Grousbeck for his commitment to the league.

“Wyc has been with the league for about 22 years now,” Silver said. “He was a leader in our committee system on our board of directors. He was closely involved in every aspect of the league, from collective bargaining to profit sharing to the media. I understand the family circumstances and why he and his family decided to sell the franchise at this time.”

The Celtics just won their first championship since 2008. The decision to sell shocked many, including star striker Jayson Tatum.

Brad Stevens, Celtics president of basketball operations, said the ownership group's intent to sell just isn’t expected to affect the operational side of things for now. While the ownership group intends to sell a majority stake either this yr or next, Wyc Grousbeck plans to remain in office as governor through 2028.
