New Orleans – When he was asked how much he was surprised by the extent of the Super Bowl Lix lack of his team, the Kansas City Chiefs Wide Wide Receiver Deandre Hopkins provided a somewhat harmless answer: “A loss is a loss. It is a 'W' or a 'L' at the top of the day. “

Then Hopkins branched out within the same answer and, after the 40:22 defeat on Sunday evening against the Philadelphia Eagles, obviously wanted to get something of his chest.

“I actually have seen many things within the media concerning the referees, but in fact (explosive), what are they going to be concerning the referees and us now when there have been many delicate calls?” Said Hopkins. “Will you report that? Are you going to speak concerning the referees now? “

However, it was not reigning who did the chiefs to fail. Despite the guilt that on Patrick Mahomes for the failed attempt by the chiefs in a three-goal attempt not helped against an Eagles squad that had the chiefs in every phase.

How the Eagles have thwarted the striving of the chiefs in a dominant super bowl victory

It was clear that the pass of Eagles, which was generated exclusively by the team's defensive front, made Mahomes more unpleasant than any defense recently. The Eagles Edge-Rush Josh Sweat raced for 2 1/2 sacks around the chiefs two, while defender Milton Williams bullied up for two other interior fittings, including a strip bag in the second half.

Mahomes said he had the feeling that the Eagles might flash him once or twice on Sunday; According to Trumedia, the actual number of Eagles in Super Bowl Lix. Without ever having to bring additional defenders, Philadelphia stacked six sacks with 18 pressure with a pressure rate of 40.9 percent.

“To make a team lightning, you will have to find a way to beat what they show, and we didn't do this – especially in the primary half,” said Mahomes. “We made some good adjustments (half -time) and got out better, but it was almost too late. The dynamics had (the Eagles) favor, (because of) how they play and how they lead football and control the clock with Jalen (Hurts), causing great conversions of third parties. It brought our defense to a really bad place.

“And so should you are in these big games, you will have to play higher from the beginning. And that's stuff on which I’ll proceed to work and proceed to get well. “

There is no question that the pressure of the Eagles in his two interceptions influenced the Mahome on Sunday evening, including a selection of Cooper Dejean, which increased Philadelphias lead to 17: 0 in the second quarter.

“He is human,” said Hopkins of his QB.

This consistent pressure explains why Mahomes moved to the right at Dejeans on a designed rollout. But even with a little clear space before a late pressure occurred, Mahomes – have already been released several times after this time – and threw a bad pass. Dejean picked up the faulty ball and then took it back for an Eagles TD.

Mahomes' second interceptors also got here out deep within the territory of Kansas City, this time from a blocked bag. Mahomes said that a defender hit his arm within the play, which induced a brief pass that Eagles Linebacker Zack Baun had strapped when he dived for the lawn.

“They showed no other appearance,” said Center Creed Humphrey. “They showed nothing unpacked. It was only essential that they got here out and played harder. “

That could be the most meaningful part.

Joe Thuney has been one of the best guards in the league-es for many years, there is a reason why the Chiefs signed it in 2021 and why he was an all-project-all-project-project in the last two seasons. But Thuney was the last remedy of the team to protect the blind side of Mahomes after Kingsley Suamataia, Wanya Morris and DJ Humphries had proven to be not the answers there, and this rotating door should catch up with the chiefs at some point.

Thuney ended the regular season with a pressure rate of 11.5 percent with 131 passblock snapshots. His numbers had improved during the two previous playoff games of the Chiefs (4.6 percent pressure rate), but they returned on Sunday evening (11.9 percent).

Mahomes laid the heat for the failures of the chiefs and the inability to cope with the passes' passport, and kept the criticism from his front five away. He said he would examine how to better be equipped against the skills of the opposing teams in order to throw free defenders in his pocket.

“This defense continues to get well, and that's why I actually have to get well, and that's why I take lots of property,” said Mahomes. “… I can't make bad games worse and I believe that's something you will have seen (Sunday) games. “

TRUE. But Mahomes also needs help.

There is a high probability that Thuney will return to his usual waxplace for the 2025 season, which means that the chiefs need a left -wing duel – urgently. Another Kansas City Guard, Trey Smith, could also be one of the most sought -after free agents that are to be launched in March.

The chiefs' offensive lines are relatively new. Mangable of viable options at Wide Receiver, on the other hand, started last season.

Even with Rashee Rice Healthing in 2023, Mahomes produced the worst EPA-Per-dropback rate of his career. The chiefs naturally won the Super Bowl this season. But without a rice (in the injured reserve since October) for a big I try to mention Mahomes.

All three veteran recipients are upcoming free agents, but they also teamed up for only 12 catches for 155 yards and a TD in this off -season. They all diluted all (19 receptions, 287 yards, three TDS).

“This may very well be his last time to play with them, a few of them – may very well be their last game, trades,” said Worthy, who caught eight passes for 157 yards and two TDS if there was a loss on Sunday. “These boys really helped me a lot, only in my development as a man and as a player in this league. They gave me this knowledge to learn and build my rookie year. I only appreciate them very much. “

Given the very fact of what number of close victories the chiefs escape this season, it was all the time fair to ask how far a few of these position groups may lead them. The Super Bowl Lix Drubbing should force Mahomes and the chiefs to look at exactly find out how to improve to maintain the step cases forward.

SANTA CLARA – Patrick Taylor Jr. admits there have been times when he wondered if at the present time would ever come.

“Sometimes it comes to mind,” Taylor said. “But you have to stay consistent and disciplined with your process.”

Taylor is the following man up within the running back room with rookie Isaac Guerendo out Friday before the 49ers travel to Miami to face the Dolphins in a battle of 6-8 teams.

Left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) was also ruled out. Listed as questionable were edge rusher Nick Bosa (hip/oblique), linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) and edge rusher Robert Beal Jr. (ankle).

In his fourth season and his first with the 49ers, the 26-year-old Taylor has played in 44 games. Along with fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who opened a game on a single back set, Taylor is the 49ers' fourth running back this season, including Jordan Mason, Christian McCaffrey and Isaac Guerendo.

In three seasons with Green Bay, Taylor played 34 games without starting and remained within the NFL primarily through his work on special teams. He has 14 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown for the 49ers. Over the course of his profession, Taylor caught 79 carries for 311 yards and two touchdowns.

The most Taylor has ever moved the ball in a game was 11 times for 53 yards for Green Bay against the Detroit Lions in 2022.

It's not recent territory for Shanahan, who has played 15 different starting running backs within the regular season or playoffs since joining the 49ers in 2017.

The first was Carlos Hyde, followed by Matt Breida, Alfred Morris, Jeff Wilson, Tevin Coleman, Raheem Mostert, Jerick McKinnon, Elijah Mitchell, Trey Sermon, Deebo Samuel, McCaffrey, Mason, Guerendo and Juszczyk.

Ke'Shawn Vaughn and Israel Abanikanda could also be available to support Taylor, with the chance that Samuel is also used at running back.

“He's been here since training camp, he's done a really good job for us, played in this league before with Green Bay and when he got opportunities with us he ran the ball well,” Shanahan said of Taylor. “When he’s not running the ball, he helps on special teams. A great opportunity for him and I’m glad we got him.”

In college at Memphis, Taylor rushed for two,884 yards on 536 carries and 36 touchdowns. He battled a Lisfranc foot injury that caused him to go undrafted.

Taylor attributes the 49ers' ability to have interaction and play running backs effectively partially to the direction of position coach Bobby Turner.

“He does a great job making sure we go into a game prepared and he has a lot of confidence in us that we will play well,” Taylor said. “When we’re out there, it’s just about playing freely and not hesitating.”

BROCK'S CHIP

Quarterback Brock Purdy's revelation that he'll should play with a chip on his shoulder again was news to Shanahan.

“He has a great challenge like every other player I’ve been with,” Shanahan said. “He was probably trying to answer a question and think of something to say to you.”

THE EMBREE INFLUENCE

Tight end George Kittle stays indebted to Jon Embree, who coached tight ends for the 49ers from 2017 to 2021 and was his coach as a rookie fifth-round draft select of Iowa.

In fact, Kittle said he's still getting pointers from Embree, who’s now Miami's tight ends coach and associate head coach under former 49ers assistant Mike McDaniel.

“I think coach Embree did a great job of showing me the basics and throwing me a life jacket because I was a freshman,” Kittle said. “At 5 a.m. our time, 8 a.m. Miami time, I get a random coaching point from him that says, 'Your footwork was garbage last week.' “You have to change your attitude,” and I always appreciate those coaching points.”

JUICE LEADS THE FIDE DEFENSE

Juszczyk is the one 49ers player to steer the fan vote for the 2025 Pro Bowl games.

Jusczyk is an eight-time Pro Bowler with the Baltimore Ravens and 49ers, rating ahead of Kansas City fullback Carson Steele.

Kittle is second amongst tight ends behind Raiders rookie Brock Bowers (and first within the NFC), while edge rusher Nick Bosa and tackle Trent Williams are sixth at their respective positions. Linebacker Fred Warner is the No. 7 ranked inside linebacker. Quarterback Brock Purdy is just not in the highest 10.

Pro Bowl teams are chosen through voting by fans, players and coaches. No 49ers player is ranked in the highest 10. There were nine 49ers who became Pro Bowlers last yr – Bosa, Juszczyk, Williams, Kittle, McCaffrey, Warner, quarterback Brock Purdy, defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, Warner and cornerback Charvarius Ward.

Since becoming the Giants' president of baseball operations, Buster Posey has consistently emphasized his desire to construct a fundamentally sound team – a team that plays “strong defense.” Zack Minasian, the team's latest general manager, sang an analogous tune during his opening press conference.

As Posey and Minasian begin constructing next 12 months's team, they won't must look far for 2 of baseball's best defenders.

Third baseman Matt Chapman and catcher Patrick Bailey were each named Gold Glove Award winners on Sunday. This is the primary time the Giants have had multiple award winners in a single season since Posey, second baseman Joe Panik and shortstop Brandon Crawford in 2016. They are the primary Giants to receive the award since Crawford in 2021.

“It means a lot,” Chapman said. “(Nolan Arenado) dominated the National League for a long time. Ke'Bryan Hayes won it last year. There are a lot of really good defensive third basemen in the National League. I was able to come here and win it. I thought it was pretty cool to get one in the American League and the National League.”

Bailey added: “I’m very proud of that. I was obviously a little frustrated that I didn't make it last year, but I put in the work and wanted to improve in all aspects and was just excited to be able to win it this year.”

Mike Yastrzemski was a finalist for the Gold Glove in right field, but the award went to the Brewers' Sal Frelick. Fremont's Steven Kwan won his third Gold Glove Award after taking home the hardware in each of his first three major league seasons.

For Chapman, who signed a six-year, $151 million extension with San Francisco in September, this is the fifth Gold Glove of his career, three of which he won with the A's. The 31-year-old's defensive resume also includes two Platinum Glove Awards, three Fielding Bible Awards and 109 defensive runs saved most of any position player since he made his debut.

For Bailey, arguably the best defensive catcher in baseball, it is the first time in his young career that he has won gold. The 25-year-old is the fourth catcher in Giants history to receive this award, joining Posey (2015), Mike Matheney (2004) and Kirt Manwaring (1993).

Given publicly available defensive metrics, Chapman and Bailey were both the strongest candidates to win at their respective positions.

Chapman led all third basemen in defensive runs saved (17) and tied with the Brewers' Joey Ortiz for the most outs above average (11). Bailey, a finalist last year, caught 19 runners attempting to steal second base in 64 attempts (the most in the Netherlands).

He led all the defenders inside Fielding run value (22), as well as all catchers in defensive runs saved (20) and Catcher framing runs (16). Be Pop time of 1.85 seconds tied for second place with JT Realmuto of the Phillies and Korey Lee of the White Sox as the best baseball players caught stealing above average (nine).

When Bailey and Chapman were asked if the other made a notable play, Bailey quickly pointed to Chapman's game-saving defensive gem against the Mets in Queens. Chapman couldn't think of a specific play for his backstop, but spoke generally of Bailey's ability to throw runners out.

“It's so fun to watch his quick transfer and his ability to pick up balls like a middle infielder and throw out guys at second base,” Chapman said. “I always enjoy seeing guys head to second base and watching Patrick throw them out.”

While the Giants have two of the perfect outfielders in baseball, their defense should improve overall.

Last 12 months, San Francisco's outfielders combined for -16 defensive runs saved (twenty seventh) and -19 outs above average (twenty ninth). Those numbers should improve if Jung Hoo Lee, who was limited to 37 games as a result of a season-ending left shoulder injury in May, returns to the patrol midfield.

Along with the outfield, the Giants' shortstops overall finished with -11 defensive runs saved and -3 outs above average, but they may quickly improve this unit in the event that they manage to sign Willy Adames or Ha-Seong Kim in free agency.

“Apparently Buster is pretty busy right now with the GM hiring. He has a lot going on, but I told him I would be as committed as they would like,” Chapman said. “I want the best for this team and to do that I have to bring people in, whether it's trading people or signing people. Whatever it is, I'm all for it. I signed up here because I really enjoy the people here and the staff we have and I think we can win here. So I’m going to do everything I can to get the guys here and help win.”

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Patrick Mahomes is essentially the most talented quarterback within the NFL – and he needs help. Desperate. With emphasis. Immediately.

Since the Kansas City Chiefs need to develop into the primary team to win three Super Bowls in a row, the one option is a trade.

Although the league's trade deadline ends at 3 p.m. CT on Election Day, November 5, the Chiefs' top executives – club owner Clark Hunt, coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach – can have to make a move well before the deadline you read this.

Yes, the Chiefs are the league's only undefeated team with a 6-0 record after Sunday's victory over the San Francisco 49ers, a rematch of Super Bowl LVIII that was tougher than the dazzling comeback Mahomes staged in Las Vegas on the largest stage in sport.

However, Mahomes doesn’t have his three best wide receivers – experienced newcomer Marquise Brown (left shoulder), rising star Rashee Rice (right knee) and JuJu Smith-Schuster (right hamstring), who rejoined the team in late August. Midway through the primary quarter on Sunday, Smith-Schuster suffered a serious hamstring injury and missed the rest of the sport. Reid announced Monday that the Chiefs have already ruled out Smith-Schuster for his or her next game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

For the primary time in his eight-year profession, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to a 6-0 start, a testament to his drive and skill. But given the losses at receiver, you ask yourself: How long can Mahomes proceed to stabilize the Chiefs' passing attack?

Okay, the Chiefs can beat the Raiders without making a trade. Secure. But the competition within the AFC gets tougher because the weather gets colder. Also, have a look at how strange Mahomes' passing stats are through six games – just six touchdowns, a league-leading eight interceptions and an 82.5 passer rating, the bottom of his profession as a starter.

Mahomes needs help. Among healthy players on the skill position, Mahomes trusts essentially the most in tight ends Travis Kelce and Noah Gray, who led the Chiefs with 66 yards rushing against the 49ers for the primary time in his four-year profession. The Chiefs' leading wide receiver on Sunday was rookie speedster Xavier Worthy, who had three receptions on eight targets for 19 yards.

Mahomes was heroic within the second half. He escaped the pocket several times to avoid sacks, he showed elite athleticism in his profession 33-yard run down the sideline, and he saved the Chiefs' offense on a four-and-goal snap by catching 49ers rookie safety Malik Mustapha's one-yard touchdown run made it 1-1.

Fans of each other NFL team must shout to themselves like Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad: “He can’t get away with this!”

The truth is that Mahomes can't try this. We all saw what happened in Super Bowl LV when Mahomes tried his best to be a wizard behind a makeshift offensive line as a result of multiple injuries this season. The Chiefs did not rating a touchdown. The constant pressure from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' outstanding pass rushers forced Mahomes to run time and again – he ran for a complete of 497 yards before releasing the ball, essentially the most pre-throw and pre-sack yards by a quarterback one game this season, in response to Next Gen Stats.

This time, Mahomes doesn't necessarily need great coverage from the AFC's top prospects to be the rationale he struggles and takes unnecessary hits that endanger his health.

Consider this: If the Chiefs don't make a trade this week, Mahomes will enter the sport with a gaggle of receivers – Worthy, Justin Watson, Mecole Hardman and Skyy Moore – who’ve combined to generate 27 receptions for 343 yards and two touchdowns. Heck, even left tackle Wanya Morris has higher receiving stats this season (one reception for a 1-yard touchdown) than Moore, who has yet to record a reception but has dropped two passes.

The Chiefs' most suitable choice on the trade market appears to be Diontae Johnson, the Carolina Panthers receiver who leads his team with 30 receptions on 58 targets for 357 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson, 5-foot-10 and 183 kilos, can also be the form of speedy receiver Reid loves. Johnson can break away from coverage together with his assignments and can develop into a free agent within the offseason at age 28. If the Chiefs sign Johnson, he can be motivated to do his best, especially within the postseason, to maximise his earning potential.

Another option is New York Giants receiver Darius Slayton, who has 25 receptions on 40 targets for 312 yards and a touchdown. The 27-year-old Slayton is one of the crucial underrated receivers within the league. He averaged 14.8 yards per catch.

Of course, there are other options – DeAndre Hopkins (Titans), Christian Kirk (Jaguars), Demarcus Robinson (Rams), Tutu Atwell (Rams) and Adam Thielen (Panthers).

Whoever the Chiefs think is essentially the most talented receiver is the one they should get. To seal a deal, think about using a 2025 third-round pick if mandatory, much like what was needed last week when the Buffalo Bills acquired Amari Cooper and the New York Jets acquired Davante Adams. The Chiefs have two 2025 third-round picks, including one they received from the Tennessee Titans for cornerback L'Jarius Sneed.

Andy Reid picked a wide-open Kadarius Toney. @0officialC2N pic.twitter.com/0U9EjmCdzl

A trade will help make sure the Chiefs' offense is as strong as possible heading into the postseason and increase the margin for error for Mahomes.

Two years ago, the Chiefs traded with the Giants for receiver Kadarius Toney. Although the trade wasn't an awesome success, Toney did his part to assist the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. He accomplished a 50-yard punt return, the longest in Super Bowl history, and scored a touchdown. Last 12 months, the Chiefs made a small move before the deadline by trading to the Jets for Mecole Hardman, the receiver who scored the walk-off touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII.

After his first season with the Chiefs, Toney called Reid the neatest coach within the league.

“I’m surrounded by the MVP (Mahomes) and the top tight end (Kelce) in the league,” Toney said on the time.

The Chiefs don't need a superstar receiver. Mahomes has proven he can win championships without him. However, Mahomes needs one other motivated, serviceable and reliable receiver to assist him take the Chiefs to a peak no NFL team has yet reached.

SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants suffered a significant blow Tuesday when Patrick Bailey was placed on the injured list, but manager Bob Melvin was confident they won't be without their starting catcher for long.

“It's hard to say, but I'm pretty optimistic he should be ready on Day 10,” Melvin said after the Giants' 4-1 win over the White Sox. “Based on what I'm hearing and how he's feeling. We've been a little cautious on that one.”

Bailey underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan on Tuesday, which revealed a strain of the correct oblique abdominal muscle.

After being scratched Monday night but not yet undergoing imaging, Bailey told reporters that the injury felt “very, very minor” and that his absence was “more of a precautionary measure than anything else.”

He first felt problems in his right side after throwing some left-handed shots before Monday's game.

“It wasn't really a particular swing,” he said. “It just kind of tightened up at the end.”

Bailey, the Giants' second most precious player with 3.8 fWAR, is eligible for next Thursday's final road game at Milwaukee, although a 10-day absence can be considered a fast recovery from an oblique strain of any severity. They often have a 4- to 6-week timeline.

“If you go out even one game too early and get injured again,” Melvin said, “it can take a long time.”

Although Bailey has been in a rut on the plate currently, his pitch-framing, play-calling and throwing skills have nonetheless made him one of the beneficial catchers in the game. According to the Statcast metric, which measures throwing, blocking, framing, arm and runs against average, he has collected 19 fielding runs above average, greater than double the next-best catchers, who’ve nine.

In the meantime, the Giants will hand the keys to veteran reliever Curt Casali, who has already contributed to 4 runs from the last spot within the lineup while leading a pitching staff that has allowed a complete of 4 runs after getting used the last two nights.

“(Bailey) is one of those guys that's hard to replace,” Melvin said. “Even if he doesn't swing the bat well, which he does behind the plate. And this year he's hit in the middle of the order for us at times. But Curt is doing a good job right now. He's on a bit of a roll right now. He knows these guys.”

When they placed Bailey on the 10-day IL, the Giants brought in Jakson Reetz from Triple-A Sacramento as their second catcher. But Casali said he expects to catch Logan Webb in Wednesday's matinee. That can be the primary time he starts three straight games since Sept. 18-20, 2022, after the Giants traded him to Seattle following his original tenure in San Francisco.

The majority of the work during Bailey's absence will likely fall on the shoulders of the 35-year-old from Walnut Creek.

“I just have to keep going,” he said. “Obviously I'm disappointed that Patty has to sit out for a while, but I'm looking forward to the opportunity to play. Hopefully we won't miss anything when I get back.”

So far, so good.

The Giants' victory Tuesday night was their seventh consecutive win in games wherein Casali began, improving his overall record with him as a hitter this season to 14-10.

About two hours before Monday's game, he received word that he can be within the starting lineup that night, but prior to that, he had only began twice in 19 games since catching half of the sport's doubleheader on July 27.

“I'm going to go out there and do my best, so I hope Webby makes it easy for me,” Casali said. “But I feel good. I'm fresh and ready to go. … I feel like a young 35-year-old right now.”
