Everyone desires to report on sports media, but possibly not everyone should do it.

Mike Florio, “Pro Football Talk” aggregator/Insider/Gadfly of the additional class, could be seen every Sunday evening on probably the most watched Pregame show, NBC's “Football Night in America”, but he puts himself a bit of within the league police And the media. Some of what he does could be pretty good.

Others not a lot.

This week Florio praised the podcast “Si Media with Jimmy Traina” NBC in comparison with his competitive broadcaster Fox in relation to Tom Brady, the $ 375 million TV game analysts, which has a ten percent share within the Las Vegas Raiders.

“I've been with NBC for 15 years now,” said Florio. “Under no circumstances would NBC Tom Brady give a microphone if a part of a team belongs. You would never do it. “

Well, except as Dale Earnhardt Jr. Cars in the XFinity series on NBC. Earnhardt won races in the league, just not his own. So far that was the agreement between Fox and Brady.

In addition, NBC has just acquired the rights to the NBA and conducted talks with Dwyane Wade, a minority owner of Utah Jazz, and Grant Hill, who is currently working as a TNT analyst and holds participation in the Atlanta Hawks.

“You would never do it,” said Florio to Traina. “You said: 'Tom, you’ve gotten to decide on a trace.'”

When asked whether this was true, a spokesman for NBC Sports said: “We is not going to comment on hypotheses.”

Florio launched Pro Football Talk almost a quarter of a century ago and is a rather incredible story about how he developed from a lawyer with a hobby to an institution that competes with the top football pages and focuses on a first-class studio show . But when he entered into a partnership with NBC, he started doing business with the broadcaster and his relationships, regardless of how close he was on the side – and he continues than many others.

This has gone the earlier criticism of Pro Football Talk to Mike Trico at Espn since Trico Nbc's franchise player. Florio, the uncompromising all -rounder, failed to have ever posted something about the apology of his team -mate “Football Night in America” Tony Dungy in 2023 after having spoken to the myth that garbage cans would be set up at school for children that identify as cats. There was no cat-first grader post on PFT.

“There is a fundamental difference between a great teammate for a colleague and the possession of a share and a major voice within the leadership of a team that takes place in a league that is roofed,” said Florio about the comparisons between him and Brady.

All of this does not mean that Florios is a general point of view as an inherent conflict of interest with Brady's participation in the Raiders and the accusation against FOX is unfounded. In an ideal world it is one or the other.

In Florios Welt, Fox Brady should have made an ultimatum regarding his $ 375 million contracts to broadcast games or take over the Raiders. Even if you agree to Florio, FOX may not have the right to simply withdraw from the contract.

Florio has built up a lucrative business by rewriting, commenting and reporting NFL messages. He often goes all-in. In this case he shouldn't have done it. You know glass houses, stones and so on.

So far it seems to have paid off – greater than 30 million people set to NBC's TV and streaming platforms to observe the games, generating a record $1.2 billion in promoting revenue.

NBC executives have touted the Olympics as a growth engine and differentiator within the increasingly crowded streaming and live sports landscape, and now they need to extend that profit beyond the Games to future live sports.

“We completely changed the game plan internally. We ripped up the playbook two years ago,” said Jenny Storms, NBCUniversal's head of entertainment and sports marketing. “It was very scary at the time to take the institutional knowledge that we had had for so long, rip it up and start over. We really started completely new and fresh, from production to the company-wide counterparts.”

The Olympic Games have long been a central theme for NBCUniversal. In Paris, the 18th Olympic Games were broadcast by NBC within the USA. The company renewed The rights were acquired in 2014 and an agreement was made to pay a complete of $7.65 billion for the Games between 2022 and 2032, or greater than $1.2 billion for every event.

Shortly before Paris, the efforts failed. The 2021 Tokyo and 2022 Beijing Olympic Games attracted the bottom audience numbers ever for a Summer and Winter Games, respectively.

Storms identified that there have been aspects at play within the last two Olympics that were largely outside of NBCUniversal's control.

Both games were overshadowed by the early stages of the pandemic. Tokyo was postponed for a 12 months and fans and families were unable to attend either game. The time zone difference with Asia also had a negative impact on the US broadcast.

The biggest misstep, nevertheless, appeared to be Peacock's strategy during these Games. In Tokyo, only a few events were available to stream continue to exist Peacock. In Beijing, there was live content, but fans had trouble finding what they wanted to observe.

“We said Peacock was going to be the home of the Olympics, and we didn't really deliver,” said Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group. “We were nervous about how much content we were going to put there, how we were going to program it, and how we were going to deliver it across the board.” [with traditional TV]. And the fans rightly told us that we didn't keep our guarantees.”

NBC Family Plan

Executives from across the company have credited Paris as part of the success of this year's Olympics. The stunning setting – with the opening ceremony on the Seine and the beach volleyball match in front of the Eiffel Tower, to name a few – and the convenient time zone worked in NBC's favor.

The company also started marketing the Olympics much earlier this time, using various parts of NBCUniversal to spread the word, from news broadcasts and talk shows to various forms of advertising, Storms said.

Both Storms and Lazarus also pointed to the success of broadcasting the Olympic qualifying competitions in the weeks leading up to the Games.

“We've never really pushed the Trials before,” Storms said. “But it was essentially the most streamed Trials ever and it was vital to warm up America.”

And then there was the star factor of NBCUniversal's internal roster.

The company has deployed its own talent more strategically in 2024, executives said. In addition to airing content commercials, NBC stars have been integrated into the events themselves by serving as co-hosts and reporting from the sidelines. Fan favorite Snoop Dogg, a special correspondent for the NBC Olympics, generated buzz on social media and drew more attention to the live events. And his prominent presence in Paris helped publicize his upcoming role on NBC's “The Voice” in the fall.

“We've had an awesome experience with Snoop, we're definitely within the Snoop business with 'The Voice' and we hope to be within the Snoop business in the longer term,” Lazarus said, adding that NBCUniversal has not yet committed to Snoop Dogg for future Olympics.

Other NBC talents also attended the games to promote their projects. Mariska Hargitay, who has played Olivia Benson in “Law & Order: SVU” since 1999, was in Paris to promote the 26. Show Season. A number of Saturday Night Live cast members were present, including Colin Jost, who reported on surfing in Tahiti and a Early exit for health reasons.

The games also featured promotions from NBC and Peacock, and Universal's upcoming film, “Wicked,” was often featured in the spotlight. Stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo appeared on the opening ceremony red carpet.

The “Wicked” cast also did a promotional piece for U.S. gymnast Simone Biles, and an exclusive clip from the film aired during the “Today” show from Paris. According to surveys of moviegoers, NBC said, “'Wicked' gained ground in all areas throughout the Olympics, doubling our exposure and increasing overall awareness.”

Fluffing up peacock

There is probably no other NBC company that shone brighter during the Olympics than the streaming platform Peacock.

According to a press release, 23.5 billion minutes of the Olympics were streamed, largely thanks to Peacock, 40% more than all previous Summer and Winter Olympics combined.

“Peacock delivered in every way we hadn’t done before,” Lazarus said.

In addition to live coverage, there were exclusive shows like “Gold Zone,” hosted by Scott Hanson of “NFL Red Zone,” giving fans more ways to watch throughout the day. There were also features developed just for the Olympics, such as an artificial intelligence feature with daily recaps featuring the voice of Al Michaels, a longtime announcer of major NFL games.

A appreciated 2.8 million consumers signed up for Peacock during the first week of the Summer Games, averaging nearly 400,000 new signups per day, according to data provider Antenna. That's nearly equal to the signups Peacock's exclusive NFL Wild Card game attracted in January, according to Antenna. The game ranks as the most streamed live event in history, with 27.6 million viewers, according to Nielsen.

Comcast recently reported that Peacock had 33 million paying customers as of June 30 — 500,000 fewer than the previous period, which it attributed largely to the loss of customers who left after the Wild Card Game. However, analyst Craig Moffett of MoffettNathanson said it's worth noting the customers who have stayed since the Wild Card Game.

“I believe they'll have the identical experience on the Olympics,” Moffett said. “Sure, a few of those customers will leave, but in the long run they'll probably keep quite a bit greater than they lose.”

Still, traditional television accounted for the bulk of viewership during the Paris Games — nearly 90% of viewers watched on broadcast and cable channels, Lazarus said. Thanks to the more convenient time zone, NBC aired live events on television and Peacock during the day and renamed the evening broadcast “Primetime in Paris,” which rebroadcast major events with sideshows and interviews.

The strategy used in Paris will serve as a roadmap for future Olympic Games – the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles – as well as other live sports broadcasts on NBC and Peacock television networks, executives said.

Shortly after the 2024 Olympic Games, the new seasons of the English Premier League in football, American college football and the National Football League will begin. Starting in the 2025-2026 season, NBC will also be the rights holder of the games of the National Basketball Association.

“I feel Peacock is becoming more sophisticated in sports coverage, as we saw with the Olympics,” said Shirin Malkani, co-chair of the sports industry group at Perkins Coie.

Follow live coverage of Day 12 of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with 21 gold medals up for grabs

Bow-wow-wow, yippie-yo, yippie-yay, Snoop Dogg may proceed to be seen in an enormous way on NBC's Olympics coverage.

When asked this week if NBC Universal plans to bring Snoop back for on-air work on the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics and the Olympic Games thereafter, two key members of NBC Universal's leadership group answered “yes.”

“Snoop gave it his all at the Paris Games and even more than we ever expected from him,” said Rick Cordella, president of NBC Sports. “He was enthusiastic. He was optimistic. I think we would be really happy to have Snoop back in any capacity he wants to come back in.”

Cordella's boss, Mark Lazarus, who Chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group, When asked if the corporate would ask the artist to return to the Olympic family, he quickly replied, “Yes.”

Snoop Dogg was omnipresent in NBC's Olympic coverage and at various venues in Paris. He has turn into such an enormous a part of the Olympic Games that BBC News headlined it as follows: “America’s cheerleader at the Olympics.” The 52-year-old had a small role on the 2021 Tokyo Olympics as a part of a recap commentary show on Peacock alongside comedian Kevin Hart, but he hit the bottom running in Paris, where he got into every kind of situations involving athletes and sports as a roving correspondent. That has resonated.

““This all began in Tokyo in 2021. Kevin Hart and Snoop Dogg were co-hosting a comedy highlights show on Peacock called 'Olympic Highlights,' and several other clips from it went viral, but what also struck me was Snoop's passion for the Olympics and in addition his own reverence for the athletes and their stories,” said Molly Solomon, executive producer and president of NBC's Olympic production and the person who pushed for Snoop's increased visibility on television.

“For the last year and a half, we sat down with Snoop and really thought about what that role could be. I've called him an ambassador of happiness. When you look at his content, everyone wants to meet Snoop, take a selfie with him and just be around him. We've been pleasantly surprised by his popularity, but you can never underestimate Snoop Dogg. He's this wonderful mix of swagger and positivity and his charisma and charisma are so positive. He has this undeniable curiosity about the Olympics.”

The artist was a part of the Olympic Games, which have been an enormous success for NBC Universal to date. During the primary 11 days of the Games, NBCUniversal said it reached a mean of 32.6 million viewers during prime time in Paris (2-5 p.m. ET) and prime time within the United States (8-11 p.m. ET/PT).

“We measure success here primarily by whether we have a product that appeals to the public and attends in large numbers – and that is clearly the case with the Olympics,” said Lazarus. “The last Games were not as big as we thought. These Games are exceeding all our expectations.”

More voters trust Donald Trump than President Joe Biden to tackle inflation and the associated fee of living, their biggest concerns for the U.S., in keeping with recent data NBC News poll.

The poll of 1,000 registered voters nationwide found that 52% of respondents said Trump would higher manage inflation and the associated fee of living, while 30% said the identical about Biden.

The survey was conducted April 12-16, several days after the discharge of one other higher-than-expected inflation report that suggested consumer prices were starting to rise again. Trump attacked Biden's economic policies immediately after the information was released.

As consumer prices rise again, the Biden administration has maintained its message on inflation and focused more attention on other facets of the economy: jobs, tariffs and taxes.

Biden's strong deal with these issues was evident as he made his rounds in the important thing battleground state of Pennsylvania last week.

During a speech Wednesday in Pittsburgh, Biden announced he would support tripling tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum imports, sharpening his growing economic aggressive stance toward China.

And a day earlier in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden focused on the tax code and jobs: “In all of American history, there are only two presidents on record who left office with fewer jobs than when they came into office: Herbert Hoover and, yes, Donald .” “Herbert Hoover” Trump.”

These speeches come after Biden spent months hammering the argument that corporations are to blame for stubbornly high prices and stubborn inflation. He accused the companies of price gouging and “shrinkflation,” the practice of selling fewer quantities of products at the identical price.

But as consumer prices fluctuate, Biden's recent comments suggest he’s attempting to bring other economic issues and data to the forefront of voters' minds.

For example, while Trump criticizes Biden's economy, the president doubles down on the claim that the US has “the best economy in the world.” In fact, the United States ranks at the highest of developed economies in key metrics akin to gross domestic product and unemployment.

But voters usually are not easily distracted by their feelings about inflation and the associated fee of living.

Only 11% of respondents cited “jobs and the economy” as essentially the most critical issues facing the country ahead of the November election. Meanwhile, 23% of respondents, the biggest proportion, said inflation and the associated fee of living were their biggest problems – and a majority said Trump would do higher with them.

Overall, the NBC poll concluded that Biden appears to be catching as much as Trump's lead, reflecting an identical result from a New York Times/Siena College survey earlier this month. The NBC poll showed Trump leading Biden by two points in a head-to-head matchup, smaller than his five-point lead in January. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 3.10%.

But voters' rosy memory of the Trump economy was a fixture in early polls and continues to weigh on Biden's momentum. Despite Biden's efforts to shift the conversation back to other economic issues, inflation appears to stay an unavoidable obstacle to winning the general public's trust.
