Sending astronauts to check these features may help researchers understand how and when necessary events occurred in Mars&#39; early history.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.nasa.gov/mission/artemis-i/">The Space Launch System and Orion</a> Successful launch on November 16, 2022 as a part of the Artemis I mission. It was the Artemis program&#39;s first unmanned flight to the moon, and there Orion orbited the moon for six days, traveling as much as 80 miles (129 kilometers) above the surface. </p>
<p>Artemis I landed back on Earth on December 11, 2022, after its 1.4 million mile (2.2 million kilometer) maiden voyage. </p>
<p><a href="https://www.nasa.gov/mission/artemis-iii/">Artemis III</a>is the primary mission to return humans to the lunar surface <a href="https://www.lpi.usra.edu/Artemis/">planned for 2026</a>. The Artemis astronauts will land on the moon&#39;s south pole, where scientists imagine there could also be large deposits of underground water in the shape of ice that astronauts could mine, melt, purify and drink. The Artemis astronauts will establish habitats on the lunar surface and spend several months exploring the lunar surface. </p>

<p>CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — SpaceX <a href="https://apnews.com/article/boeing-spacex-nasa-astronauts-starliner-e4e81e5a6c23dee2f8f72260ddea011c">launched a rescue mission</a> for the 2 astronauts stuck on the International Space Station on Saturday and sent a scaled-down crew to bring them home, but not until next 12 months.</p>
<p>The capsule shot into orbit to select up the test pilots <a href="https://apnews.com/article/nasa-stuck-astronauts-boeing-starliner-92dca67a1fbecf05f5f0e6e2e79afc3b">Boeing spacecraft returned to Earth empty</a> earlier this month as a consequence of safety concerns. The change in voyages left recovery to Nick Hague of NASA and Alexander Gorbunov of Russia <a href="https://apnews.com/article/stuck-astronauts-boeing-starliner-nasa-1933b64f91ba06713e57446e2dbee1c4">Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams</a>.</p>
<p>Because NASA rotates space station crews about every six months, this newly launched flight is not going to return until late February with two free seats for Wilmore and Williams. Officials said there was no approach to bring them back to SpaceX sooner without disrupting other planned missions.</p>
<p>When they return, the couple may have spent greater than eight months in space. When they signed up for Boeing&#39;s first astronaut flight, which launched in June, they expected to be gone for just per week.</p>
<p>NASA ultimately concluded that Boeing&#39;s Starliner was too dangerous after a cascade of problems with the engines and helium leaks marred the flight to the orbiting complex. The space agency excluded two astronauts from this SpaceX launch to make room for Wilmore and Williams on the return flight.</p>
<p>Williams has now been promoted to commander of the space station, which can soon return to its normal population of seven. Once Hague and Gorbunov arrive this weekend, 4 astronauts who&#8217;ve lived there since March will have the ability to depart in their very own SpaceX capsule. Their return home was delayed by a month as a consequence of the unrest on the Starliner.</p>
<p>Before the flight, Hague noted that change is the one constant in human spaceflight.</p>
<p>“There is always something that is changing. Maybe this time it was a little more visible to the public,” he said.</p>
<p>Hague was appointed rescue mission commander six years ago due to his experience and handling of a launch emergency. The Russian rocket failed shortly after launch and the capsule carrying him and a cosmonaut catapulted from the highest to safety.</p>
<p>New NASA astronaut Zena Cardman and veteran space flyer Stephanie Wilson were pulled from that flight after NASA selected SpaceX to bring the stranded astronauts home. Both had promised a future space mission and were at NASA&#39;s Kennedy Space Center, where they attended the launch livestream. Gorbunov remained on the flight as a part of an exchange agreement between NASA and the Russian space agency.</p>
<p>“Every manned launch I have ever seen has really touched me. This one was particularly unique today,” said Cardman with tears in his eyes after the beginning within the early afternoon. &#8220;It was hard not to observe the rocket take off without considering, &#39;That&#39;s my rocket and that&#39;s my crew.&#39; ”</p>
<p>Shortly before the beginning, Hague paid tribute to his two colleagues who had stayed behind: “Unbreakable. We did it together.” In orbit, he called it a “sweet ride” and thanked everyone who made it possible.</p>
<p>Previously, Hague acknowledged the challenge of launching with half a crew and returning with two astronauts trained on one other spacecraft.</p>
<p>“We have a dynamic challenge before us,” Hague said after arriving from Houston last weekend. “We know each other, are professionals and do what is asked of us.”</p>
<p>SpaceX has long been a pacesetter in NASA&#39;s industrial crew program, which was founded when the space shuttles were retired greater than a decade ago. SpaceX surpassed Boeing in carrying astronauts to the space station in 2020 and is now as much as 10 crew flights for NASA.</p>
<p>Boeing has struggled with quite a lot of problems through the years, repeating a Starliner test flight with nobody on board after the primary one went off beam. The Starliner that left Wilmore and Williams in space landed effortlessly within the New Mexico desert on September 6 and has since returned to Kennedy Space Center. Per week ago, Boeing&#39;s defense and space chief was replaced.</p>
<p>The latest SpaceX launch was delayed by Hurricane Helene, which hit Florida, and was the primary for astronauts from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. SpaceX took over the old Titan rocket platform nearly 20 years ago and used it for satellite launches while crews from Kennedy&#39;s former Apollo and shuttle pad flew round the corner. The company wanted more flexibility as more Falcon rockets got here onto the market.</p>

<p>Seven church members representing the Presbytery of San Jose recently traveled to Peru to watch and document what organizations there are doing for the environment.</p>
<p>However, they weren&#8217;t there to inform local people what to do or to resolve problems.</p>
<p>&#8220;That doesn&#39;t work,&#8221; said the Rev. Elizabeth Boatwright, who attends First Presbyterian Church of Mountain View and has traveled to Peru. &#8220;We wanted to hear their story, their solutions, their dreams. Then our job is to accompany them in prayer and to work with them as partners, praying and offering them all the resources we have to make that dream come true.&#8221;</p>
<p>The key, Boatwright said, is to be certain that Peruvians “own the solution.”</p>
<p>The team members visited Peru from May 19 to 26 and were particularly concerned about what Peruvian leaders are doing to handle local air and water pollution, oil pollution, lead poisoning, mining corruption, abuse of indigenous lands, and illegal trade. The church members then returned to the United States and presented their findings to their local churches.</p>
<p>“We were told that very few people come to see and hear what is going on, and [hear] the local solutions to the problem,&#8221; Boatwright said. &#8220;We were excited to come back and tell the story.&#8221;</p>
<p>Team members were originally scheduled to make the trip in 2020, but due to political unrest in Peru and complications related to the COVID pandemic, it was postponed to 2024. Mission teams from the Presbytery of San Jose previously traveled to Puerto Rico and Indonesia.</p>
<p>The team members represent six Presbyterian churches in Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz County. In addition to Boatwright, they are David Heacock, a member of Los Gatos Presbyterian, the Rev. Deborah Troester, pastor of Santa Teresa Hills Presbyterian, the Rev. Karla Kress of Saint Andrew Presbyterian in Aptos, Mary and Barry Vickery of Sunnyvale Presbyterian and Olga Enciso Smith of Westminster Presbyterian in the Rose Garden neighborhood of San Jose.</p>
<p>The group visited four major areas in Peru, including a memorial in Lima that commemorates the thousands of Peruvians who went missing, kidnapped or killed during the Shining Path years from 1980 to 2000. The terrorist group Sendero Luminoso (&#8220;Shining Path&#8221;) carried out a campaign of violence in Peru that is responsible for more than 24,000 deaths.</p>
<p>The team also visited the Chillon River in Callo. Callo has poor air quality due to oil refineries and the river is polluted by waste and oil spills, Boatwright said.</p>
<p>&#8220;This trip brought tears to my eyes as I saw the damage to health and nature,&#8221; said Smith, a Los Gatos resident originally from Peru. &#8220;I am very grateful to be part of this group and to have the opportunity to witness this dire situation.&#8221;</p>
<p>The group also visited the town of La Oroya, which had a smelter that polluted the air for decades and caused lead poisoning in much of the population. According to Boatwright, 98.6% of children between the ages of 6 and 12 have extremely high levels of lead in their blood. The EPA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention agree that there is no known safe level of lead in children&#39;s blood. According to the World Health Organization, lead in children can cause mental retardation or a lower IQ.</p>
<p>“In addition, we also spoke to former teams and learned about their commitment to advocating for the interests of local communities both in Lima and in relation to smelters in the United States,” Boatwright said.</p>
<p>She added that the response was &#8220;amazing&#8221; when the results from Peru were presented to parishioners at First Presbyterian Church in Mountain View.</p>
<p>&#8220;People weren&#8217;t aware of what Indigenous peoples were affected by unscrupulous practices,&#8221; Boatwright said. &#8220;My biggest hope is that folks will consider supporting local people&#39;s efforts to create healthy environments, promote self-sustaining agriculture and community constructing, end corrupt practices and offer fair trade solutions.&#8221;</p>
<p>The team members hope to proceed to spread the message.</p>
<p>“We pray that we can share our presentation with others in the community who would like to join us in providing the means to fulfill their desires,” Boatwright said.</p>

<p>Since 1961 <a href="https://www.astronomy.com/space-exploration/how-many-people-have-gone-to-space/">lower than 700 people</a> been in space. Private space corporations similar to <a href="https://www.spacex.com/">SpaceX</a> And <a href="https://www.blueorigin.com/">Blue Origin</a> We hope to extend this number to many 1000&#8217;s, and SpaceX is already <a href="https://www.flyingmag.com/spacex-adds-cosmic-tourism-offering-to-website/">Accept bookings</a> for flights into Earth orbit.</p>

Polaris Dawn, scheduled to launch in early September 2024, will probably be a high-risk mission involving only civilian astronauts, so now&#8217;s a superb time to weigh the risks and advantages of leaving Earth.</p>
<h2>Space travel is dangerous</h2>
<p>Most Americans still vividly remember the disasters that killed 14 astronauts. Two of the five space shuttles disintegrated, <a href="https://sma.nasa.gov/SignificantIncidents/assets/rogers_commission_report.pdf">challenger</a> 1986 shortly after the launch and <a href="https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/20030066167/downloads/20030066167.pdf">Columbia</a> in 2003 upon re-entry.</p>

<p>In total, <a href="https://sma.nasa.gov/SignificantIncidents/assets/rogers_commission_report.pdf">30 astronauts</a> and cosmonauts have died while training for or during space missions.</p>
<p>There were also dozens of <a href="https://sma.nasa.gov/SignificantIncidents/">close decisions</a>Two astronauts are currently staying on the International Space Station for an additional six months as NASA <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/24/science/boeing-starliner-nasa-astronauts-spacex/index.html">Boeing Starliner</a> Vehicle not secure for the return journey. This accident followed <a href="https://www.wired.com/2007/07/spaceshiptwo-bl/">three dead and three injured</a> in an explosion during a launch test of the SpaceShipTwo rocket in 2007.</p>
<p>SpaceX, the <a href="https://www.thomasnet.com/insights/biggest-space-companies/">largest business space company</a> with 13,000 employees and a market value of $180 billion, there have been no deaths in flight, nevertheless it recorded <a href="https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/spacex-musk-safety/">one dead and a whole bunch injured</a> at work.</p>
<p>The launch of the Polaris Dawn mission was scheduled for August 27, 2024, but was delayed by a helium leak and bad weather. The mission will significantly increase the chance to civilians in space. The SpaceX flight will reach an altitude of 700 kilometers, higher than any astronaut has reached since Apollo. </p>

A spacesuit is sort of a miniature spaceship and must endure rapid temperature changes of a whole bunch of degrees because it moves out and in of direct sunlight. Even a small tear or hole may be fatal.</p>
<p>But while space travel is fraught with dangers, it also offers rewards. Because Polaris Dawn will fly higher than any previous non-moon mission, the crew will <a href="https://www.astronomy.com/space-exploration/all-about-the-polaris-dawn-mission/">Research on radiation-intensive environments</a>They are investigating the results of space flight on the human body and evaluating how future space travelers could diagnose and treat themselves.</p>

<p>Terrance King, 30, was arrested after police received a tip that he had come to the Bay Area from Southern California to look for his brother&#39;s killer in Oakland while King was still in prison. When authorities caught up with him in San Leandro, he was allegedly carrying a bag containing an AK-47 pistol and attempting to evade arrest, prosecutors allege.</p>

<p>King&#39;s attorney within the state&#39;s case filed court documents saying King had no nefarious intentions but had come to the Bay Area to assemble his family and leave the world.</p>
<p>A federal judge approved King&#39;s detention, citing the facts of the case and King&#39;s alleged gang membership.</p>
<p>King was certainly one of 17 alleged members of the Oakland-based Case Gang arrested in 2013. The defendants faced charges starting from robbery and assault to pimping. King eventually accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 17 years in prison, records show.</p>
<p>Last April, King&#39;s 25-year-old brother, Hodari Lyons, was shot and killed within the 6900 block of Hamilton Street in East Oakland. When prison officials and authorities learned that Lyons was King&#39;s brother, a bunch of officers from the Oakland Police Department, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and a parole officer met with King in prison to dissuade him from retaliating, in line with authorities.</p>
<p>King was released on parole in Southern California on June 28. On July 1, police said, he had removed his ankle bracelet and was wanted on an arrest warrant.</p>

The crew consists of 4 people: mission commander Jared Isaacman, Scott Poteet, a 20-year-old Air Force pilot, and SpaceX employees Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis. The launch will happen on a <a href="https://www.spacex.com/vehicles/falcon-9/">Falcon 9 rocket</a>travel in a <a href="https://www.spacex.com/vehicles/dragon/">SpaceX Dragon capsule</a> called resilience. </p>

<p>Earth is continuously bombarded by rock and ice fragments from space, also generally known as meteoroids. Most meteoroids are as small as grains of sand and small pebbles, and burn up completely high within the atmosphere. Meteoroids, in regards to the size of a golf ball, will be seen once they light up as meteors or shooting stars on a dark, clear night. </p>
<p>While very small meteoroids are common, larger meteoroids – those larger than a dishwasher – usually are not.</p>
<p>Meteoroids are difficult objects for <a href="https://ceat.okstate.edu/mae/faculty-staff/faculty-bios/brian-elbing.html">Aerospace</a> And <a href="https://scholar.google.ca/citations?user=cNZPuIMAAAAJ&#038;hl=en">Geophysicist</a> We want to check them because we often cannot predict when and where they may hit the atmosphere. However, in very rare cases, we will study artificial objects that enter the atmosphere in an identical option to meteoroids. </p>
<p>These objects originate from space missions that aim to move physical extraterrestrial samples from space to Earth. Due to this similarity to meteoroids when entering the atmosphere, these sample return capsules (SRCs) are also known as &#8220;artificial meteors&#8221;.</p>
<p>More than 80 researchers from greater than a dozen institutions recently worked together to check such an “artificial meteor” – <a href="https://science.nasa.gov/mission/osiris-rex/">NASA&#39;s sample return capsule OSIRIS-REx</a> – when it re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere. </p>
<p>These institutions included <a href="https://www.sandia.gov/">Sandia National Laboratories</a>NASA&#39;s <a href="https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/">Jet propulsion laboratory</a>, <a href="https://www.lanl.gov/">Los Alamos National Laboratory</a>The <a href="https://www.dtra.mil/">Defense Threat Reduction Agency</a>, <a href="https://tda.com/">TDA Research Inc.</a>The <a href="https://manoa.hawaii.edu/">University of Hawaii</a>The <a href="https://www.afrl.af.mil/">Air Force Research Laboratory</a>The <a href="https://www.awe.co.uk/about-us/">Blacknest nuclear weapons facility</a>, <a href="https://www.boisestate.edu/">Boise State University</a>, <a href="https://inl.gov/">Idaho National Laboratory</a>, <a href="https://www.jhu.edu/">Johns Hopkins University</a>, <a href="https://www.kochi-tech.ac.jp/kut/english/">Kochi Technical University</a>, <a href="https://nnss.gov/">Nevada National Security Site</a>, <a href="https://www.smu.edu/">Southern Methodist University</a>The <a href="https://www.memphis.edu/">University of Memphis</a>  And <a href="https://go.okstate.edu/">Oklahoma State University</a>. </p>
<p>This sample return provided our teams with a novel opportunity to measure the sound waves and other phenomena that objects from space produce as they speed through Earth&#39;s atmosphere. </p>
<p>To record signals, we installed many sensitive microphones and other instruments at key locations near the SRC&#39;s flight path.</p>
<p>While space agencies and personal corporations are continuously sending objects into space, the OSIRIS-REx SRC is one in all only a handful of objects which have returned to Earth from interplanetary space for the reason that end of the Apollo missions. Only these objects can reach the speed of natural meteoroids, which <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390/atmos14101473">their re-entry precious</a> to check the properties of natural objects. </p>
<h2>Sampling from an asteroid</h2>
<p>NASA launched the Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security, Regolith Explorer or <a href="https://doi.org/10.1007/s11214-017-0405-1">OSIRIS REx</a>Mission on September 8, 2016. She traveled to <a href="https://science.nasa.gov/solar-system/asteroids/101955-bennu/">Bennu, a near-Earth asteroid</a>and picked up a sample from its surface in October 2020.</p>

<p>The sample <a href="https://blogs.nasa.gov/osiris-rex/">returned to earth</a> in a sample return capsule within the early morning of September 24, 2023. The SRC re-entered the Earth&#39;s atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean at a speed of over 43,500 km/h and landed in Utah just minutes later.</p>

<p><a href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.asr.2018.05.010">SRCs generate a shock wave</a> once they dive deep into the atmosphere, just like the sonic boom produced by a supersonic jet <a href="https://www.britannica.com/science/sound-barrier">break the sound barrier</a>The shock wave then loses power until only low-frequency sound stays. <a href="https://ncpa.olemiss.edu/atmospheric/">called infrasound</a>.</p>
<p>While humans cannot hear infrasound, sensitive scientific instruments can detect it even over great distances. Some of those instruments are on the bottom, while others are suspended from balloons within the air.</p>
<h2>Observation of the SRC</h2>
<p>Our teams of scientists used the SRC reentry as a possibility to learn more about meteors. One of the teams, led by <a href="https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=GhwEYzgAAAAJ&#038;hl=en">Siddharth Krishnamoorthy</a> at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, used the SRC reentry to check infrasound detection balloons that were later used on the <a href="https://doi.org/10.1029/2022GL100978">Planet Venus</a>.</p>
<p>Another team, led by one in all us – <a href="https://scholar.google.ca/citations?user=cNZPuIMAAAAJ&#038;hl=en">Elizabeth Silver</a> &#8211; And <a href="https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=iFG-r88AAAAJ&#038;hl=en">Daniel Bowman</a> at Sandia National Labs, the SRC used it to raised understand how we will use sound to [gather information about meteoroids].</p>
<p>Researchers from many institutions across the country participated in these statement campaigns.</p>
<p>Our teams strategically placed instruments at locations spanning 300 miles (482 km) from Eureka, Nevada, to close the landing site in Utah. Instruments ranged from high-tech specialized sensors to smartphones on the bottom across the SRC&#39;s flight path and landing site, monitoring low-frequency sound waves from the SRC&#39;s reentry.</p>
<p>In addition to the ground-based sensors, our researchers attached instruments to balloons that hovered at twice the altitude of economic aircraft in the course of the SRC&#39;s reentry. The sensors attached to those balloons recorded the sound waves generated by the SRC&#39;s shock wave. These sound waves contained information in regards to the SRC, its motion, and the environment it passed through. </p>

<p>The balloon teams needed to time the balloons precisely to make sure they were in the suitable position when the SRC flew by. Although the SRC was already slowing down and Wendover Airport was about 3 times farther from the flight path than the Eureka deployment, we were still in a position to detect a transparent infrasound signal here.</p>
<p>Researchers on these teams at the moment are analyzing the info to discover the points along the trajectory where the instruments recorded the SRC&#39;s reentry signals.
