Harriette Cole: How can I tell my girlfriend that I'm afraid of our conversations?

It's frustrating because I feel like I'm being forced to decide on a side although I don't wish to be there in any respect.

To make matters worse, I can't help but feel bad for his girlfriend because, frankly, my roommate is mistaken more often than not. He's selfish, disrespectful of her feelings, and stingy relating to sharing expenses or giving her a pleasant date.

I can see she's unhappy with how he treats her, but for some reason she stays with him.

The other day my roommate got here to me asking for advice about her relationship and I felt conflicted. On one hand, I would like to be honest with him and tell him that he's the issue, but I also don't wish to smash our friendship by being too blunt.

I've at all times tried to remain neutral and I've made it a rule not to present people advice about their relationships since it never ends well, but now I feel trapped because I do know he's within the mistaken. I feel guilty because I’m enabling his behavior by not saying anything.

Should I stay out of it and stick with my rule, or should I tell him the reality, even when it jeopardizes our friendship?

LOVE IN THE CENTER: Do your roommate a great conscience and talk over with him openly.

Tell him that you just've worked hard to remain out of his relationship because you already know it's none of what you are promoting, but since he's repeatedly asked you for advice, you may offer one thing: you think that he likes his girlfriend higher could treat. They realized that he may very well be more considerate, generous and type.

He may appreciate your openness. He may not have had positive role models to guide him toward loving, supportive behavior, so your insight may prove helpful to him.

However, proceed with caution and be gentle. You're right in the event you don't wish to be in the midst of his drama.

DEAR HARRIETTE: I’m a school professor and noticed that one in every of my students in my class was having significant problems.

At first I believed it’d just be the fabric, but after observing her behavior and performance, I even have a robust feeling that it is expounded to aspects outside of the classroom. This student, who was once engaged and consistent, has begun turning in assignments late, missing class, and appearing distracted after they are present.

I've tried approaching them casually during class breaks or after lectures, but they don't seem willing to open up.

I don't wish to pry an excessive amount of or make them uncomfortable, but I feel chargeable for making a supportive environment where they feel comfortable searching for help after they need it.

As a professor, I'm unsure how far to go in addressing this topic. I would like to assist, but I also don't wish to overstep my boundaries or tackle an excessive amount of of their personal life.

Should I proceed to attempt to approach them or should I step back and allow them to come to me after they are ready?

Dear student in need: Try again by inviting the scholar to office hours. Ask how things are going. Express that this student's behavior patterns have modified and that you just noticed this and wanted to examine on it.

Find out if there’s anything you may do to support them right now. Offer to listen in the event that they wish to talk. Remind them that your door is at all times open.

Your department chair or dean could have additional insight into campus services that may benefit this troubled student.

Perhaps 72-year-old Bill Belichick was drawn to greater than the plain when he met his latest 24-year-old girlfriend Jordan Hudson.

According to a former college classmate of Hudson's, Hudson and the six-time Super Bowl winner bonded over philosophy and her logic homework. TMZ reported last week.

The alleged latest couple first met on a flight from Boston to Florida in 2021, when the previous New England Patriots head coach was 69 and the previous cheerleader, cosmetology school graduate and wonder pageant contestant was studying philosophy at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts. Page Six also reported.

Belichick, a father of three and grandfather of six grandchildren, got talking to Hudson about their homework for a philosophy class, the classmate told TMZ. Hudson had a textbook called “Deductive Logic” that apparently caught Belichick's attention.

Before the plane landed, Belichick and Hudson exchanged contact information and he signed her textbook, saying, “Jordan, thanks for giving me a logic lesson! Safe travels!” Belichick also wrote the years of his Super Bowl victories at the underside.

The classmate shared with TMZ a photograph of the note legendary coach Hudson left within the textbook.

After their meeting, Hudson and Belichick stayed in contact, discussing their schoolwork and cheerleading routines.

Rumors of their romance first surfaced last week, with a source telling TMZ that Hudson and Belichick only became romantically involved after he split from Linda Holliday, his partner of over 10 years.

While Belichick's split from Holliday was not announced until September 2023, the 2 were reportedly “embroiled in a lengthy, back-and-forth separation for nearly a year” prior to their official split.

TMZ sources said that Belichick's split from Holiday actually happened quietly through the 2022 season, after which he and Hudson became greater than just friends. She also quietly supported the coach at his games at Gillette Stadium through the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Page Six said the connection was greater than “a fling,” and Belichick recently began involving her in his business ventures. She accompanied him on a business trip to Croatia and to Tom Brady's Hall of Fame induction ceremony, while he was spotted cheering her on at a cheerleading competition in March, TMZ reported.

Hudson was a competitive cheerleader at Bridgewater State University and even won a national championship with the team in 2021, Page Six reported. But she continued to play sports after graduating, competing within the March pageant that Belichick also entered. As a beauty queen, Hudson competed within the Miss Maine USA beauty pageant and was nominated as first runner-up.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho jury unanimously decided Saturday convicted murderer Chad Daybell deserves the death penalty for the gruesome murders of his wife and his girlfriend's two youngest children. This ended a grim case that began in 2019 with the seek for two missing children.

Daybell, 55, wearing a dress shirt and tie, sat on the defense table along with his hands in his lap, showing no emotion as he learned he faces the death penalty for the murders of Tammy Daybell, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow.

When asked by the judge if he desired to comment, Daybell said no.

The jury found him guilty on Thursday and voted for the death penalty after just over a day of deliberations.

The children's mother is Lori Vallow Daybell, who married Chad Daybell shortly after his wife's death. Vallow Daybell was convicted She was charged with three murders last yr and is now awaiting trial in Arizona. She is charged with murder in reference to the killing of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow. Charles Vallow was JJ's father.

The case began in 2019 when a member of the family called police. Investigators soon realized each children were missing and commenced a multi-state search. Nearly a yr later, their stays were found buried on Chad Daybell's property. Tylee's DNA was later found A pickaxe and shovel were present in a shed on the property and JJ's body was wrapped in garbage bags and duct tape, prosecutors said.

During a trial lasting nearly two months, prosecutors claimed that Chad Daybell, a self-published creator who wrote doomsday novels, unusual spiritual beliefs These include apocalyptic prophecies and stories of possession by evil spirits to justify the murders.

“This was a difficult case because of its complexity, both in telling the story of a years-long investigation and in trying to find the best way to present it in a way that others can understand,” Fremont County Attorney Lindsey Blake said outside the Boise courthouse after the decision was announced.

Relatives of the victims welcomed the jury's decision.

“This is the best justice we can get. And again, it doesn't change the outcome, but it's good news and it brings closure to everyone who was hurt,” Colby Ryan, Vallow Daybell's eldest child, told reporters.

Larry Woodcock, JJ's grandfather, thanked the judge, law enforcement and the individuals who followed the case and supported him through the years.

“You are part of the family,” he said. “I look at the faces and I tell you all: I will miss you.”

“We have experienced justice,” he added. “Equal, honest and fair.”

Daybell's defense attorney, John Prior, argued in the course of the trial that there was not enough evidence to link Daybell to the murders and suggested Vallow Daybell's older brother, Alex Cox, was the perpetrator. Cox died in late 2019 and was never charged. Vallow Daybell was convicted last yr and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

During the sentencing hearing, Prior asked jurors to guage Daybell on his life before the encounter with Vallow Daybell. He described her as a bombshell that threw him off beam with an otherwise healthy life. But Daybell also refused to supply any mitigating circumstances in the course of the sentencing hearing. Mitigating circumstances are sometimes used to get jurors to feel sympathy for a defendant, to point out that a life sentence is more appropriate than the death penalty.

Family members of the victims gave emotional statements to jurors. JJ Vallow's grandmother, Kay Woodcock, tearfully described how the 7-year-old showed empathy and compassion toward others by gently touching them and ceaselessly asking if those around him were OK. She also said that Tylee was a loving big sister and that it warmed her heart to see the 2 of them together.

“I can’t put into words how much I wish I had more time to make memories,” Woodcock said, starting to cry.

Ryan, Vallow Daybell's eldest child, described what it was prefer to lose his entire family. His father died years earlier.

“My three children will never know the goodness of Tylee's heart or JJ's silly and goofy personality… The impact of her loss on them is something I can only describe as a nuclear bomb dropping,” he said. “It is no exaggeration to say I have lost everything.”

To impose the death penalty, jurors needed to unanimously find that Daybell met at the least certainly one of the “aggravating circumstances” that state law requires to justify the death penalty. They also needed to agree that those aggravating circumstances weren’t outweighed by mitigating circumstances that might have diminished his guilt or justified a lesser sentence.

The jury found that there have been aggravating circumstances, including a complete disregard for human life and the indisputable fact that the murders were particularly heinous and cruel.

Idaho law allows for executions by lethal injection or firing squad, but firing squad executions have never been carried out within the state.
