ORINDA – When parents confer with their teens about Internet safety and the hazards of online encounters with strangers, the topic of bondage and tickling probably doesn't come up.

But that's exactly what happened to a handful of teenagers in downtown Contra Costa, based on authorities.

Police in Moraga and Orinda are investigating a tip that at the very least a half-dozen boys were contacted via social media by a mysterious tickler with a proposal. People who met him described him as a polite and “businesslike” middle-aged man who offered the boys $600 to be tied up, tickled and filmed at a predetermined, discreet location, authorities said.

Some of the boys gave in. And the videos soon began circulating on social media, police said.

At least 4 boys from a Lamorinda-area highschool reportedly arranged to satisfy the person at an Alameda County hotel. When they entered the room, he was already waiting for them with cameras. They chatted briefly, then the boys were tied hand and foot, separately, and tickled on a bed for 30 to 45 seconds. The boys were fully clothed and the person stopped occasionally to ask if every thing was OK and allowed them breaks between tickling sessions, authorities said.

The man allegedly told the kids the videos were for his “personal collection” after which paid the boys in money. This meeting took place last yr, police said.

Police became aware of the disturbing encounter last month when the person allegedly made contact with two other teenagers within the Lamorinda area.

“Given the intense media and public backlash to the outrageous allegation, we are not surprised that American Airlines has fired its law firm,” said attorney Paul Llewellyn, a partner at Lewis & Llewellyn LLP, which is representing the girl's family.

“With this new legal representation, we hope that American Airlines will now take a fresh look at the case and finally accept responsibility for what happened to our client,” Llewellyn added. “Otherwise, we are very confident that a jury in Texas will do the right thing and hold American Airlines accountable.”

The lawsuits against American Airlines began after a Former flight attendant was arrested for allegedly filming a 14-year-old girl in the lavatory of an airplane on a flight to Boston.

Estes Carter Thompson III, 36, of Charlotte, North Carolina, also allegedly had footage of 4 other female passengers using the airplane's bathrooms, including the 9-year-old girl from Texas who was flying to Disneyland together with her family.

During the flight last yr, she was secretly filmed using the airplane bathroom, in response to the family's lawsuit against American Airlines. The family argues that the airline knew or must have known that Thompson “posed a danger.”

American Airlines didn’t immediately respond Friday afternoon regarding the substitute of the law firm.

Thompson was arraigned on federal charges related to the Boston flight earlier this week during a hearing in U.S. District Court for Massachusetts.

Thompson, who’s in federal custody, pleaded not guilty to 1 count of attempted sexual abuse of a toddler and one count of possession of kid pornography depicting a prepubescent minor.
