NESN plans to announce on Thursday that it’s launching its own free national streaming channel supported by promoting.

The channel called NESN Nation will probably be available on Prime Video, Roku, Twitch and Plex and will probably be launched on other vital platforms in the approaching weeks.

Live -Bruins and Red Sox games usually are not broadcast, especially as a result of restrictions and geographical parameters of the NHL and MLBS Rundfunk -Rechte -Deals.

However, NESN Nation will offer greater than 30 hours of live programming per week, including 4 Red Sox Six Spring Training Games: February 23, March 9, March 9, and March 23. These games will probably be available as Twitch on all platforms mentioned above.

The latter two spring games will even be available in Samsung TV Plus, which can add the NESN Nation in the approaching weeks.

“Obviously, our rights are limited to our geographical areas, but at the beginning we are very happy to start with four Red Sox Six Spring Training Games,” said David Wisnia, President and CEO of NESN. “While this is developing, we will deal with the bruin season with the Bruin season with the Red Sox or other live content on the college page to further expand our offers.”

It needs to be emphasized that NESN Nation will not be an alternative to the NESN 360 -app or the spectators of streaming service or cable providers is sports fans outside of New England Market.

“In today's environment, it is important that we are looking for ways to reach our viewers where they are and not just limited to the northeast,” said Wisnia. “In almost 4 months I used to be [at NESN]I can't inform you how often people outside of Boston got here to me outside of our reporting area and said: “Hey, how do I connect with your brands?” Whether it’s the Red Sox, whether it’s the Bruins or something else in our arsenal, that is a possibility to do that. “

Instead of getting a network or a menu to select from, as with many streaming services, the NESN Nation will act as a channel programmed across the clock.

The programming, which will probably be available in the approaching days and weeks, includes:

· Live streams from Bruins Morning and Pregame Skates. This includes morning ice skates on March eleventh and seventeenth and February twenty fifth, March 4th and March fifteenth.

· “Unbented views”, Nesns Alternative, commentary game reporting with Tuukka Rask, Patrice Bergeron and Andrew Raycroft.

· Six athletes unlimited women's basketball games.

· Liverpool FC reporting, including a weekly three-hour block with match highlights, recaps and evaluation in addition to team production behind the scenery content.

· Eight different video-capable podcasts, including “Boston has entered the chat” and “Morning Bru”.

· Original and archived NESN functions and documentary movies, live press conferences and other programs behind the scenes.

· Live game program of chosen colleges.

· “This week in Hockey East”, a program produced in league that prescribes crucial games of the weekend.

Wisnia found that the viewers in free platforms supported by advertisers (also known as fast platforms-tubi and Pluto are two of the most well-liked channels in 2024 by 55 percent. In the approaching years, the projections for further rapid growth were growth.

The “free” aspect has the attractiveness of sports fans, who’ve turn out to be increasingly frustrated, increasingly frustrated by rising cable fees and streamers, in order that several subscriptions have to look at every Red Sox game, for instance.

“I think it's a business in which we want to be and we have to be there if we are looking for new growth opportunities,” said Wisnia.

Instead of feeling excited in regards to the upcoming election, lots of my patients and friends—no matter their political affiliation—report feeling panicked on the considered the “other side” winning. Democrats tell me they fear Donald Trump will end our democracy; Republicans fear Kamala Harris will turn the United States right into a socialist society with no family values.

Watching the news exhausts people on either side. sad and scared in regards to the future. Each half of the country is dropped at faith The other half are silly, deeply misguided, immoral, dishonest, or maliciously plotting to damage the country they love.

I’m a psychiatrist who focuses on the treatment and research of hysteria and fear. My book “Fear: Understanding the aim of fear and using the facility of fear“” examines the politics of fear and the role the media plays in modern anxieties. Scientific insights into fear can provide a helpful perspective on election anxiety and a few practical suggestions for managing politics-related worries.

Humans are a tribal species

As humans, we’ve got a robust tendency towards education Group affiliationswhether based on national, ethnic, religious, sporting, school or other social ties. People care more about their very own group members. Researchers have found that areas of Brain involved in empathy is more energetic For example, when people see a member of their very own college being injured versus someone from a rival college.

Tribal tendencies usually are not biologically tied to a specific racial, ethnic or national identity. Rather, all individuals are born with the need to Search for membership with the confidant.

Tribalism can intensify within the face of a perceived external threat. An outside threat can paranoid towards “others” not in your group and more trusting towards your tribe members and tribal leaders.

This instinct just isn’t necessarily bad. Tribalism has helped humans survive as a species by fostering the unity mandatory to fend off an invading tribe, predators, or natural disasters.

Media and politicians emphasize tribal ties

Politicians and the media know how you can exploit our tribalism to form a wagon train. They can trigger the tribal mentality to get people to avoid or attack the opposite side and proceed to donate, vote, and watch their very own side's news on cable.

For most media within the USA, as for all corporations, revenue is the highest priority. The most vital thing for them is Number of hours you watchscroll and click on. Science shows that emotions, especially negative ones, attract attention; fear makes people Stay here.

Media organizations on either side of the political spectrum recognize that Negative news captivates the audienceNo matter what news channel you watch, when was the last time you turned away out of your television feeling glad, energized and at peace? More often than not, you find yourself feeling just like the whole world goes up in flames.

These dynamics are amplified during election campaigns, as politicians seek money and votes and the media seize the chance to sell more promoting.

Dealing with fears about political news

You can handle your mental health and your country at the identical time. Here are some practical suggestions:

Resist the tribalism trap. Remember that in the event you are afraid of the opposite side, your primitive instincts take overand let your critical considering skills fall by the wayside. It is not possible for the political leaders and media you discover with to at all times be right and the opposite side to at all times be mistaken. Be skeptical, especially when a message is fear-mongering.

Reduce the load and select what you eat. The news programs within the US concentrate on a number of topics and inundate you with countless dramatic political evaluation and commentary. Five more hours of stories consumption is not going to add anything to what you learned in the primary hour, but it can contribute to your emotional exhaustion. My patients who limit media consumption to an hour of their favorite news program feel significantly better and are still informed. If you possibly can read as a substitute of watching, try this. Be informed, not overwhelmed.

Ensure a balanced messaging behavior. Don't get stuck within the limited worldview presented by your group. Make sure your news weight loss program includes neutral sources and other points of view. The boring news sources are sometimes the less emotionally draining ones.

Stay open to the positive. If you might be afraid, Attention followsby specializing in stimuli relevant to what scares you. This is an evolutionary function that tries to guard you by specializing in the danger. Override this instinct by intentionally directing your attention to positive news.
Resist the trap of division. Reject demonization of others. Political beliefs are just one a part of an American's identity.
Remember, this election cycle will pass. Use this time as a chance to expand your political knowledge. Be smitten by your side, do what you possibly can to support them, go vote. Don't be afraid.

At just 16 years old, Maya Merhige is already one of the successful open water swimmers on this sport.

Over the weekend, she swam the English Channel – one in every of the hardest open water swimming competitions on the planet – and accomplished the Open Water Triple Crown by swimming the English Channel, the Catalina Channel and the 20 Bridges Swim in Manhattan.

But what Merhige is most pleased with is that, despite her success, her skills within the water have made an actual difference for people battling cancer.

Merhige has greater than 100,000 US dollars in regards to the organization Swim Across America, which supports cancer research by hosting charity swims resembling the English Channel swim.

Merhige is deeply affected by the difficulty because she herself had a health scare last 12 months. She was hospitalized when doctors discovered a tumor in her pancreas. They ultimately determined it wasn't cancer, but Merhige gained a brand new appreciation for what cancer patients undergo.

When asked what it means to boost money for cancer research, Merhige said, “For me, that's the most important part of swimming.”

“It's been incredible to be able to raise so much money doing something I love. I know the doctors who will benefit from the money I raise and I know that all the work they do is really important.”

Merhige has been swimming since she was nine years old, but she has taken a liking to open water swimming since the sport presents so many alternative challenges. Similar to marathon running, open water swimmers must swim long distances over difficult terrain. It is one in every of the hardest swimming disciplines because it places a whole lot of strain on the body and tests the swimmer's endurance.

At age 14, Merhige became the youngest woman to win the Lake Tahoe Swimming Triple Crown, swimming 21.5 miles in 13 hours. Last 12 months, she became the youngest swimmer to finish the Kaiwi Molokai Channel, a 26-mile stretch between the Hawaiian islands of Molokai and Oahu.

But achieving the Triple Crown in open water swimming was never Merhige's goal. It just so happened that she accomplished the opposite two major swimming competitions on the way in which there.

In 2021, she accomplished the 20-mile swim across the Catalina Channel, which runs from Catalina Island to mainland California, in 10 hours and 48 minutes. Last 12 months, she accomplished the 28.5-mile 20 Bridges swim in New York City in 8 hours and 43 minutes.

Despite having already accomplished the Catalina and 20 Bridge swimming events at such a young age, crossing the English Channel isn’t any easy task.

The English Channel is understood for its abundance of jellyfish and sharks, which may deter swimmers. The swim also takes place at night and there are strong currents, making it difficult to predict what obstacles the water might bring.

“For me, it’s much easier to swim in the dark because you can’t really think about what’s going on,” Merhige said.

But Merhige's experience made the difference on Saturday. She accomplished the swim in 11 hours and 39 minutes, winning the Triple Crown.

Merhige is the 334th swimmer and the third youngest to ever accomplish this prestigious feat.

“We are incredibly proud of Maya and her determination and courage to compete in these swimming events,” Merhige's mother Liz Tung said in a press release. “We never imagined that Maya, who was just nine years old when she swam her first Swim Across America – the open water swim in San Francisco – would develop such a passion for open water swimming and make it this far. To win the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming at just 16 years old is just incredible! We are so happy for her!”

There was a likelihood that Merhige wouldn’t have been in this case when doctors discovered the tumor in her pancreas in May 2023. During the ten-day treatment, she was unable to depart the hospital and needed to take a break from training.

But during this time she developed a deeper understanding of what she had been swimming for her entire life.

“I think being in the hospital last year has made me more aware of what it feels like,” Merhige said. “My experience was very different from that of a cancer patient. But as a child in the hospital, I understand it much better now. In the last few years, many people around me have struggled with cancer, so I just understand it better.”

Her latest perspective has also impacted her family. Merhige's father, Chris Merhige, said he’s now much more grateful to the doctors in Berkeley who helped treat his daughter.

“UCSF and the great work they do is so present for me,” he said. “We see it every day when we drive along Highway 24. Many of our friends have unfortunately been treated there. To help Maya represent the area and contribute to the great work UCSF does is a really meaningful experience.”

Maya is a rising senior at Berkeley High School and isn't sure if she desires to pursue a profession as a swimmer yet, but she plans to remain energetic in the game and hopefully be someone younger swimmers can look as much as.

“For me, it was really exciting and fun,” Merhige said. “I think it also opened the doors for a lot of other younger open water swimmers and showed them that they can achieve a lot. A lot of open water swimming is not accessible to younger swimmers, but just being able to show them that these things are not necessarily just for adults and that you can do it if you want to. That was really exciting for me.”

Previously fire a barrage of drones and missiles on Israel on April 13, 2024, reportedly by Iran I received a message to Washington that its response to an earlier attack on the embassy compound in Syria can be geared toward stopping a serious escalation. The message was delivered via the Arab Gulf state of Oman.

The current crisis within the Middle East is one which the authorities in Oman have tried to avoid for years. Located across the Strait of Hormuz from Iran and shut Defense and security relations with the USA and the United Kingdom, Oman recognizes that similar attacks increase the chance of a broader war that might engulf countries and armed non-state groups across the region.

This could trigger a full-scale war further escalation measures from Tehran or Jerusalem. But it could also occur through misjudgment or misunderstandingparticularly given the shortage of official bilateral channels for dialogue and de-escalation.

And that is where Oman comes into play. The Gulf state has been around for years quietly built a track record reduce regional tensions through diplomacy. It has continued to play this role because the Hamas attack on October seventh. In the months since that attack and Israel's response in Gaza sent the region into turmoil, Oman has held firm High-level dialogues with Iran, The host was British Foreign Secretary David Cameron for talks on security within the Red Sea and called for a ceasefire in Gaza.

It could now play a vital role in keeping the channel of communication open between the US and Iran because the parties attempt to ease tensions.

Stand out from regional rivalries

Together with the neighboring countries Qatar and Kuwait in addition to Switzerland what represents US interests in Iran within the absence of an American embassy – Oman has played a vital role in back-channel diplomacy.

But Oman's approach differs from that of other nations. Instead of engaging in direct conversations, it creates space for dialogue and repair as a moderator quite than an intermediary.

There are several reasons for Omani's decision to act as an intermediary. Unlike another Gulf states equivalent to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Oman doesn’t have strained relations with Iran.

Rather, Omanis keep in mind that Iran was under the Shah Support provided to Oman within the Seventies, when the Gulf state's then young recent sultan, Qaboos bin Said, fought against one Decades of rebellion within the southern province of Dhofar.

Even after the Shah was overthrown within the 1979 Iranian Revolution and replaced by a clerical regime led by Ayatollah Khomeini, Oman distinguished itself from others within the region and refused to have interaction in regional rivalries and competition for geopolitical influence Iran's relations with other Gulf states were affected.

Secret back channels

Representing a small state In a volatile region, Omani officials have created diplomatic spaces that allow them to have interaction with regional issues on their very own terms and in ways in which play to their strengths. Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, a profession diplomat who became Omani foreign minister in 2020, said: already mentioned in 2003“We are trying to use our intermediate position between larger powers to reduce the potential for conflict in our immediate neighborhood.”

In contrast to Qatar, which has caused a stir worldwide about his role as a mediator In the negotiations between Hamas and Israel, Oman is less involved in mediation and more in mediation Relief.

This is a vital distinction that Omanis have maintained on the subject of working with U.S. and Iranian officials. in addition to Representative of Saudi Arabia and Houthis through the decades-long Yemeni civil war.

Omani funding takes different forms. It may consist of passing messages and maintaining indirect communication channels between adversaries or establishing back channels and holding discreet meetings.

Little attention is paid to Qatar's mediation initiatives. equivalent to the lectures with the Taliban that gave birth to 2020 Doha Agreement for the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan.

Still, Oman's approach can produce results. In his memoirsWilliam Burns, “The Back Channel,” written after his departure from the State Department and before his appointment as CIA director by President Joe Biden, provided an in depth account of Oman's role in facilitating the back channel between U.S. and Iranian officials within the Year 2013 This led to negotiations that led to the result Nuclear take care of Iran from 2015.

That back channel began after Iranian officials relayed a message to the U.S. through Oman in 2012 proposing a gathering in Muscat, the Gulf state's capital.

Burns recalled that the top of Omani intelligence “greeted both delegations as we entered the briefing room,” “gave a few brief words of welcome and then left.”

The background channel remained secret during eight rounds of a generally constructive dialogue that marked the longest and most sustained negotiation between Iranian and U.S. officials since 1979.

Host opponents

While there’s a thaw between the US and Iran didn't lastThe Omani Back Channel highlighted several aspects which might be crucial to the success of any try and defuse tensions between seemingly implacable opponents.

The trust of each side in Omani officials was crucial, and the positive end result of the meetings increased confidence in each side' use of Omani channels.

Oman's role as a facilitator of indirect engagement between the United States and Iran became more necessary with the role of President Donald Trump Decision to withdraw the US from the nuclear take care of Iran in 2018 and the failure the Biden administration to rejoin the agreement.

Apparently the one time Oman was unwilling to tackle this role was when post-U.S. tensions rose Killing of Iranian General Qassim Soleimani in January 2020 – because Sultan Qaboos was seriously unwell. In Oman's absence, the Swiss led the return channel.

Reduce tensions

Oman has passed messages between Iranian and U.S. officials during heightened tensions because the Oct. 7 attack in Israel. In January 2024, Omani officials received delegations of senior negotiators from each countries, commuting between the representatives in separate rooms.

Even as a serious regional conflict loomed within the Middle East after Israel's suspected bombing of an Iranian embassy compound in Damascus on April 1, Oman was there to attempt to contain tensions.

On April 7, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said, Visited Oman – Providing a possibility for Omani officials to tell the U.S. and other Western officials about Iran and Tehran's considering planned his response to the attack in Damascus.

And while the present crisis within the Middle East is on a scale that Oman cannot manage alone, the flexibility of trusted intermediaries like Oman – together with Qatar and Switzerland – to maintain communication channels open is critical to reducing the opportunity of inadvertent escalation to reduce on the Iranian side and to enhance U.S. and European dialogue with Israeli leaders in in search of a peaceful solution to the standoff.
