PLEASANTON – A lady said her boyfriend was killed by burglars who briefly held her against her will and butchered the 32-year-old man within the couple's lounge. But prior to now 12 months, her story has completely unraveled, in line with police.

On Thursday, Pleasanton police homicide detectives arrested the girlfriend, 27-year-old Kennedy Stith, on charges of killing her boyfriend with a knife last 12 months. Stith has not yet been charged, but a rescheduled date has been set for Monday. Police are expected to soon forward the case to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office for charges, records show.

The victim, 32-year-old Edevion White, was stabbed to death within the lounge of his Owens Drive apartment on May 1, 2023. After his death, family and friends contacted investigators with suggestions that White had recorded videos of Stith behaving aggressively and threatening him. Those White confidants also told authorities he had a premonition: If he died under mysterious circumstances, they need to take a look at Stith first, authorities said.

Stith was the one who called 911 on the day of the murder, but her evolving story immediately raised alarm with police. While on the phone with dispatchers, she allegedly stated there was an ongoing “domestic dispute” at home. When police arrived on the bloody crime scene, she had a unique version of events, police said.

She allegedly told investigators that two robbers broke into the home, certainly one of them with a gun. One of the boys held her at gunpoint within the kitchen while the opposite fought with Stith in one other a part of the home and stabbed him once within the chest. The robbers then fled the apartment, she claimed.

According to police, there are striking discrepancies between their testimony and the crime scene. First, White's body fell next to the front door of the home, making it difficult for police to get in and any robbers to get out. White's blood was found everywhere in the apartment, although the story says the fight took place within the lounge.

Investigators' suspicions were heightened when Stith and her mother – who was on the couple's home that day – each failed to indicate up for a scheduled interview. Police say Stith also never inquired concerning the status of the investigation after she gave her initial statement on the day of the murder.

Shortly after a Lake Tahoe woman was reported missing, her boyfriend was caught after allegedly fleeing Reno within the automotive of a person who was shot to death.

The case began with a missing person report filed with the Placer County Sheriff's Office on Friday, August 9: Patricia Portella-Wright, 48, had failed to indicate up for work. She was a photographer and art gallery worker who lived in Kings Beach along with her boyfriend, Brent Clifford, 55, and was last seen on August 4.

Officers were unable to achieve Clifford and commenced trying to find him.

A possible clue was found two days later. On Sunday, August 11, police were called to a house in Reno where they found 68-year-old William Andrews dead from a gunshot wound to the pinnacle. Andrews turned out to be an acquaintance of Brent Clifford.

After the connection was made, the Placer County Sheriff's Office asked the general public for assist in locating Andrews' missing vehicle, a red Chevrolet Blazer. The office said the SUV was last seen near Hallelujah Junction on Highway 70 in California, and it published an image from a surveillance camera of the vehicle passing the Circus Circus Casino in downtown Reno.

The driver of the Blazer was probably Clifford, it was said.

On Wednesday around 4 p.m., Clifford was arrested in Portola on suspicion of identity theft. The blazer was found nearby.

As the seek for Portella-Wright continued, investigators found clues that led them to the Mount Rose area. On Thursday, a drone spotted a body on a steep slope below Mount Rose Highway between the ski area and the Galena Forest neighborhood. It was recovered and identified as Portella-Wright's body that afternoon. A Placer County Sheriff's Office spokesman didn’t give a reason behind death but said there have been signs of foul play.

Based on the identification, Clifford was charged with murder and was within the Placer County Jail on Thursday.

SAN MATEO – A lady who was nine months pregnant was found dead in her peninsula home Sunday night, and her partner was arrested hours later in Southern California on suspicion of murder, authorities said.

Shortly after 6 p.m., San Mateo law enforcement officials were called to a house within the 1300 block of B Street for a report of a pregnant woman being arrested and to take care of a growing group of distressed relatives, police said.

Paramedics on the scene pronounced the 37-year-old woman dead along along with her unborn child, police said. Investigators quickly deemed the deaths suspicious, citing witness statements and “evidence found at the scene” to discover the lady's partner, 33-year-old Andrew Coleman, as a possible suspect.

Police confirmed on Monday that Coleman was the kid's father.

Police haven’t released the explanation for death, nor have they disclosed once they imagine the deaths occurred. The San Mateo County coroner's office had not released the lady's identity as of Monday afternoon.

Coleman was not on the scene when police arrived, but the next investigation revealed evidence that he was headed toward Southern California.

After San Mateo police alerted law enforcement to Coleman's possible whereabouts within the Los Angeles area, he was arrested in West Covina, police said.

Where Coleman was being held was unclear Monday; there was no record of him within the Los Angeles County jail system. But police said investigators from San Mateo traveled to Southern California to query Coleman.

If your boyfriend behaves unreasonably in other areas as well, you need to “consider rethinking the relationship.”

DEAR ABBY: I’m 42 and recently had my first baby. My brother is six years younger and has a baby who just turned one. Our mother has 4 biological grandchildren and one step-grandchild.

I do know mom loves all of them. She is a really caring and generous grandmother. But these days, each time I mention my daughter in a conversation, she mechanically starts talking about my brother's baby. I've noticed that this happens lots and my boyfriend has noticed it too.

We were at a family reunion recently and each time someone mentioned their kids or grandkids, Mom would come over and begin talking about my brother's daughter.

Don't get me incorrect, I really like my niece. But mom doesn't discuss my daughter or my sister's kids (teens) the identical way she talks about my brother's girl.

Am I incorrect to think that my mother must give attention to my baby when she is together with her? I'm uninterested in her all the time talking about my niece. My boyfriend is uninterested in it too but hasn't said anything to my mother.

I truthfully don't think she's doing it on purpose. Should I discuss it together with her or simply leave it at that?

She will not be aware that she is doing it and the effect it’s having on you.
