For one night only – Sunday, November twenty fourth – the drive-thru event was strictly a motorbike drive-thru event. The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition put the query to Christmas within the Park executive director Debbie Degutis, who agreed to the two-wheeled extravaganza.

Although bicycles aren’t any longer allowed this season, cars are allowed on the Drive Thru Light Show until January 1st. Six miles of San Jose streets can be closed to cars and open to bikes, pedestrians, runners and skateboarders on Sunday for the third edition of Viva CalleSJ this yr.

The route this time, “Parks to Roses,” stretches from Roosevelt Park at Santa Clara and nineteenth Streets through downtown to the Municipal Rose Garden and Japantown. The event runs from 10 a.m. to three p.m. and, as usual, there can be several points along the route where vehicles can drive through.

There can be loads of activity along the route, including BMX stunt riders in front of San Jose City Hall, karaoke in front of the Billy DeFrank LGBTQ Community Center on Alameda, and Pro Wrestling Revolution shows on the intersection of Race Street and Alameda.

Bands and DJs will provide entertainment in Roosevelt Park, St. James Park, the Municipal Rose Garden and Japantown, where there can even be food trucks and free bike repair stations.

The SJZ Boom Box stage can be arrange in Japantown, where DJ Cutso, Cado and Valley Wolf will play music from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. DJ Too Tall can be in Roosevelt Park, where Grupo Folkorico Yolotli Gurrerense can even perform at noon. The Muncipal Rose Garden will host DJ John Jimenez from 10 a.m. to three p.m., and St. James Park will host the bands School of Rock (10:15 a.m.) and Dear Radio (12:45 p.m.) playing jazz and cumbia music.
